Critical Assets: Academic Libraries, a View from the Administration Building - 5/1/2010... - 1 views

  •
"Which of the following predictions about the future of libraries were made by university administrators? Within five years, libraries will focus exclusively on electronic resources Academic computing and libraries will merge. Librarians who do not produce will be reassigned or fired. The library will only house materials that are actively used. Libraries will shrink, in both collection size and staffing, and funding will be redirected from libraries to more critical and productive areas of the university." Sound familiar?

Social Media Research & Practice in Higher Ed #sxswEDU podcast | Social Media in Higher... - 0 views

  •
"Back in March I served on a panel along with Liz Gross, Ed Cabellon, and Greg Heiberger at the #sxswEDU conference. Here are some of the highlights: Greg and I talk about our latest research on using Twitter to support students throughout their first year of college. I summarize my recent research on using Facebook in education. Greg explores the future of higher education and how new technologies can be used to effectively improve student success. Liz discusses how to use Facebook to market your institution and programs. Ed explains how to frame productive social media use to administrators. I get snarky about EdTech startups and how they don't communicate with educators."

The paper highlights some of the concerns and benefits post-sec institutions in BC are grappling with when considering using cloud-based applications and services (specifically those hosted in the US), and illustrates some examples of how BC post-sec's have addressed these issues within their institutions."

MOMO (Mobile Moodle) Project - 0 views

  •
The MOMO (Mobile Moodle) project is an Add-On to the popular Moodle Learning Management System. It brings the ability to implement mobile learning scenarios with Moodle as a backend. Mobile users install the MOMO client, a JAVA based application, on their mobile phones (or any other JAVA and Internet capable device). Through this client they can access courses wherever they are, which allows completely new scenarios. Administrators install the necessary MOMO extension on their Moodle server which makes the compatible contents available for mobile usage. They can configure and maintain the system through the integrated administration interface all within Moodle. Teachers can design courses with either several mobile elements or complete mobile learning scenarios using the tools and methodologies they know from within Moodle.
