Recommendations to improve search experience - an OU project using library logs - eg "Other students on your course are also searching for ..."  At an early stage but worth watching.

A free online course on Python - written by a UMich professor and released as CC remix. Includes slides and lecture audio and or video from last time he taught this course on campus.

"The report is based on questionnaires and interviews conducted by BCcampus with a cross section of institutional stakeholders (instructors, teaching and learning centres and IT administrators) at 9 BC post-secondary institutions (25 were contacted) in the Fall of 2010. The paper highlights some of the concerns and benefits post-sec institutions in BC are grappling with when considering using cloud-based applications and services (specifically those hosted in the US), and illustrates some examples of how BC post-sec's have addressed these issues within their institutions."

This resource is intended to distil lessons learned from various JISC innovation programmes into a "Good Practice Guide for Sustaining and Embedding Innovations". It is intended to support project steering groups and management teams in further and higher education in decision-making in this area and focuses on: Changing people and culture.Working with existing institutional structures to influence organisational change.Embedding or aligning with strategies, processes, systems, initiatives and services.Creating usable tools and resources (as part of project outputs) to meet stakeholder needs.Developing commercial and open approaches to sustaining and embedding innovation.

Presentation introducing faculty to Athabasca University's social networking system (based on elgg?). I particularly like slide 10 showing a fourth integrative pedagogy.

Landing is an Elgg install (currently v1.7.7). Brighton University also have (had?) an elgg install, open for staff and students to create whatever communities they wanted. Noticed that New Zealand Ministry of Education is also an Elgg user (according to Elgg site)

"'We found no evidence for any discontinuity in technology use around the age of 30 as would be predicted by the Net Generation and Digital Natives hypothesis,' says the report. What the reseachers do find interesting and worthy of further study is the correlation--which is independent of age--between attitudes to technology and approaches to studying. In short, students who more readily use technology for their studies are more likely than others to be deeply engaged with their work."

That last point is pretty powerful. Need to get the data replicated elsewhere as next stage. But as always, different people are different!

Gen Y students using more Web2.0 than older students but generally in passive ways e.g. reading blogs but not writing them.
