Moodlemoot Dublin 2013 - Wrapping up Moodle Moot 2012 and building excitement for 2013 - 0 views

  •
"This post is to mark post conference publication which provides you with a variety of examples on how Moodle is used throughout Ireland and the UK. The publication contains six articles where the authors of each article volunteered to expand upon their conference presentation and share their experience in detail with you. This publication covers a wide variety of topics from optimising the layout of your Moodle course to analysing the usage of your course through Google Analytics. Hopefully this represents the first of many publications along the same line where Moodle users from the conference produce detailed articles sharing their Moodle experience."

M-Learning's dirty little secrets | E-Learning Provocateur - 0 views

"I have a confession to make. At my workplace a little while ago, I created a smartphone-friendly version of our online induction course. Ownership of smartphones is relatively common in this corner of the world, and a large proportion of our new recruits are Gen Y. So conventional wisdom dictated that a mobile version of the course would be a smash hit. It tanked."

Times Higher Education - Oxford opens up on graduate destinations - 1 views

  •
By this autumn, every university in England will have published a new set of information about every undergraduate course on offer. These Key Information Sets will include data on areas such as contact hours, graduate salaries and student satisfaction. But with little fanfare, one institution has already put itself ahead of the game by displaying information about its graduates in a way that could set a benchmark for the sector. The University of Oxford has created an online tool for comparing data about its graduates' careers and salaries. Tucked away on its main careers website and organised into a set of user-friendly tables, it allows immediate comparisons of the salary and employment status of its alumni from 2008-09 and 2009-10 - undergraduate and postgraduate - sorted by subject area, individual course and even constituent college.

Different tracks online students take with MOOCs e.g. do the bits which clear up the muddy points in the topic, take the course because the professor is famous, want to find out what MOOCs are like etc. These are the students lumped together as 'drop-outs' and unpacking their experience shows useful learning takes place, but they don't complete the course.

This Company May Hold the Secret to the Future of Education | TIME - 0 views

  •
"It was just 18 months ago that we were living in the "Year of the MOOC." Massive open online courses-MOOC for short-were supposed to revolutionize the way people learned and deliver high-quality education to the masses. But the idea faced a tough 2013. The co-founder of Udacity, an early pioneer in free online education, admitted that his company initially had a "lousy product," while studies showed that hardly any students were actually completing the courses offered by such services at all."
