"Welcome to the Google Apps Education Training Center. This is an online learning environment dedicated for educators and students to learn how to effectively use Google Apps in an educational context. Access to a Google Apps Education account is strongly recommended so that you can experiment and apply what you learn. There are six modules of training content available. Each module has several chapters with many lessons. After reviewing the entire training course, an individual will have a solid understanding of all the products in the Google Apps suite. Learning objectives include: * Customize Google Apps for your school * Organize your email more effectively * Create shared calendars for your school * Collaborate with others, online, on documents, presentations, and spreadsheets * Deliver and collect surveys, quizzes, and feedback * Develop a media-rich website without looking at code * Set-up an internal video portal just for your school Each chapter will take from 10 to 20 minutes to complete. Who Owns Your Data? - 0 views

  • But as we use the Internet for “free,” we have to remember that if we’re not paying for something, we’re not the customer. We are in fact the product being sold — or, more specifically, our data is. So here’s a tricky question: Who owns all that data?
  • The digital divide isn’t about who owns data — it’s about who can put that data to work.

Ultrabooks: A new era for PCs or Wintel innovation bankruptcy? | TechRepublic - 0 views

  • Microsoft, and all of their hardware partners are going to have do better than this. They need to emerge from innovation bankruptcy and do a lot more than just rubber-stamping Apple’s stuff.
  • why should people buy a knockoff of the MacBook Air when they can get the real thing for about the same price? Other than for the dwindling population of people who are heavily invested in Windows desktop software, that’s going to increasingly be a tough sell for the Wintel coalition.
  • the big question is whether this is real innovation that will change the way people use technology or if it’s just a bunch of trumped up marketing chatter to get people excited about buying laptops again
  •
For the first time in years, PCs grabbed the spotlight at CES 2012. Ultrabooks were everywhere, but was it an innovation win or an innovation failure?

Making Online Quizzes with Google Docs - Creating Quizzes | Training & E-Learning Zone ... - 0 views

  •
"Google Docs is a favorite thing for many educators. It is a totally free, web-based word processor, spreadsheet, presentation, and form application. It allows users to create and edit documents online while collaborating in real-time with other users, especially for trainers using it in online classroom. In addition to being a stellar way to write, store and manage your documents and slideshows, is also a fantastically useful way to create online quizzes for assessment. "

"Well, we are two Ukrainians who studied computer science at a university a while back. Both deeply passionate about computer science, sometime ago for our gradate work we developed an algorithm for detecting plagiarism in content. Once the project was completed, we saw what it has become. It was an amazing and useful tool for students and teachers to check if they or someone they know has plagiarized. Now finished with school, we thought this could really be useful to the public. So we gathered like-minded people to help make our service useful and popular throughout the world."

Will iBooks Author Create A Wave of Self-Published Teachers? | Wandering Academic - 0 views

  • But lo, there is a tool for the Mac that makes iPad-friendly books, allows you to print and share individual pages of a book, and allows for handwritten notes. It doesn’t, like iBooks, allow the author to update all the readers with a newly edited copy, but copy-paste will work just fine. It’s called Pages. For the teacher who self-publishes, Pages is the better, more flexible tool for now.
  •
As with anything Apple, the recent education-themed announcement has everyone dreaming of a better future for the children, and all that. The question you keep reading is "will e-textbooks change the face of education?", just like people asked about the iPad when it first came out. And while I'm very impressed by the design of the new textbooks available on iBooks 2, and I love the fact that they include touchable animations and videos to supplement text, the books themselves don't seem revolutionary.
