"Depuis quelques années maintenant, l'Internet des objets (également appelé M2M, machine to machine) fait couler beaucoup d'encre mais peine à s'installer au quotidien. On observe un développement important de la domotique [1] dans certains pays comme le Japon, où quelques modèles de maisons intelligentes ont vu le jour, mais le coût de ce type d'installation demeure élevé. Toutefois, l'Internet des objets concerne également des interactions simples entre un objet et un terminal (fixe ou mobile) : la plante verte signalerait que sa réserve d'eau est vide, un panneau d'affichage publicitaire indique qu'il est bloqué, un container à ordures qu'il est plein, etc. Cet Internet des objets pourrait se développer rapidement dans les années à venir."

La société Apple commercialise à travers ses boutiques (physique et en ligne) des accessoires compatibles avec ses terminaux iOS. Ces objets connectés (App-Enabled Accessories) regroupent les différents périphériques controlables par des applications mobiles pour le suivi de la santé et de la condition physique, le contrôle domotique.

Market research firm Infonetics expects consumers worldwide to spend $43 billion on home networking devices over the next five years as tablets and other connected devices (cars! toasters! refrigerators!) make their way into the home.

The report, part of the Future of the Internet/Imagining the Internet series, surveyed "1,021 experts and analysts from the tech world, universities, government agencies, corporations, and other stakeholders" on how close we are to a "smart" world, one which uses energy-efficient "smart structures," integrated appliances and automobiles and "smart grids" that enable a more efficient delivery of electricity and water.

Experts think tech-enhanced homes, appliances, and utilities will spread. But those systems are complex and so far there is low public demand, so they advise: Don't expect to see the 'Home of the Future' by 202...

L'utilisation d'un grand nombre d'appareils électroménagers à son domicile est depuis longtemps ancrée dans la plupart des ménages en France comme au Japon. Connected entertainment will drive revenues in the so-called "smart home" market to nearly $60 billion by 2017 - up from just $25 billion in 2012. That's the finding of Juniper Research in a new report examining the smart home market and the financial opportunities derived from connected devices and service models.
