I found a helpful resource on this site to use when teaching my blues unit. The site had video clips of seven films produced by Martin Scorsese that explore blues music and its contributions to American culture and the world.
  •
Here is a valuable website for classroom resources that can also be sorted by grade level. In addition, there are additional links for students and parents as well. The site provides a teacher discussion group and opportunities for professional development.

Jodi, Great suggestion...wonder how much longer this will be around?
  •
I had never checked out this site before. After looking around on it a bit, I am very excited to take advantage of it. I noticed that they have archived a bunch of webinars. There were many that interested me, and I'll be checking them out more later. I also loved that you can ask questions and respond to other teachers. What a great way to get new and fresh ideas!

What a great resource. I've always seen NOVA programs that would be interesting to share with my students, but I did not know there was a sight where I could search by topic. I also like that they level the clips by appropriateness for grade level. I already plan to use the clip on planets' sizes in relation to each other. Thank you for sharing this. I see myself using it a great deal.

This site has some really neat ideas for new and interesting ways for students to show their knowledge. It is an excellent resource for book report ideas. The site also provides links to other helpful websites. I did find the site a little strange to navigate in that the directions for creating a project are located in one place and then it directs you to another location on the site for pictures or drawings of the process, but overall it is still a good resource.

Citation Machine - 1 views

  •
This is a free resource for students and staff that allows them to input the bibliographic information from the resources they have used and it will create the citation for them. Users are able to choose MLA or APA styles, which will help both our students here and adults who may be taking graduate level courses.

I am personally looking forward to using this site for research papers. Thank you for sharing!

Dictionary. com is the largest and most trusted free, online dictionary. The site features a dictionary resource, thesaurus, flashcards, crosswords, and word games for homework practice and has an easy- to-use translator feature. When you look up a word, it not only gives you the definition but also an audio pronounciation, related searches, synonyms, nearby words, and information regarding the word's origin and history. As I approach my songwriting unit, I'm excited to have my students use this feature to find descriptive words as they write lyrics.

Math Graphic Organizers - 1 views

This website does require a $20 membership per year but has a lot of useful resources. When people think of graphic organizers they don't always think of using them for math. This website has a lot of graphic organizers that are specifically applicable to math.

The Enchanted Learning website offers many resources. I had never thought of looking for graphic organizers on this site. Thanks for posting it.

Looking for activities and lessons for preparing students for the 21st century? Well, this is the jackpot of resources. I was introduced to this site at a conference on the subject of 21st Century curriculum, and this site is loaded with ideas for alternative forms for assessing students. You will also find various links to websites that offer interactive and student owned activities and projects.

I like this one. I had fun playing with Google Image Swirl. Does anyone use any of the curriculum mapping resources. Some of them looked similar to what we're using in the "Best Practices" course.

Google Maps - 0 views

  •
Google Maps is a valuable resource for many reasons. It will allow users to find specific addresses and view the satalite images. Users can click on the yellow person on the screen and drag it down to get a street view of the specific address if the image is available. Google Maps could be used across the curriculum to view many different monuments and other areas around the world.
  •
This is such a useful tool! Both the regular google map perspective and the street view perspective can be helpful when learning about maps. (especially with young students who do not understand the concept of perspective)
  •
Google Maps is the best site out there for getting directions. Their maps are always up to date and the routs they give are easy to follow. The street view is particularly helpful if you don't know where you are going. You can know what to look for when trying to find a new place. This could be very helpful to students learning to drive.

Word Learner - 1 views

This website allows teachers to easily create word puzzles such as matching activities, flash cards, crossword puzzles, and word searches. Online versions of these same puzzles can also be used. It also has an online dictionary feature that provides the definition of a word as well as uses it in a sentence and provides different translations. Students can also choose from an extensive list, which dictionary they'd like to use. Some features do require the user to create an account, and there is also a premium account that users can pay a fee for. I'm sure this would open up even more resources, though I did not try this portion.

Scholastic - 0 views

A great website for teachers, students, and parents. Teachers can get lesson plan ideas, additional resources to complement Scholastic News subscriptions, order items and books for the classroom, and print mini-books and other reproducibles. Students can have discussions with others who are reading the same or similar books and learn about new books and authors. Parents can find activities for their child and even learn about how their child's reading develops.

Teacher Strategies - 2 views

  •
This website has many different strategies for lessons (including assessing students) in the elementary grades.
  •
This is a site with many useful resources. Some of the resources are in PDF format and well designed. For example, a form for students to write a current event article is perfect for upper elementary and middle school students. I will use this in situations when students are absent on the day of our weekly NewsGame. The site is well designed and has a real teacher-friendly feel to it.
