This site has games and activities that can be easily adapted for older ELL. Notetaking worksheets for beginning and advanced vocab development. It offers a lot of ideas useful for students who get bored or frustrated with their normal language arts worksheets.

Tons of graphic organizers are available at this site, also many links to other activities on a variety of topics. Very easy to find printouts, visual aids, notetaking resources, and activities for younger students. The site also includes templates for various items, including homework coupons and other reward and recognition ideas.

This a great resource for students to collaborate with their notes for a project. I have my eighth graders use it for research for their group projects and they also have to share the documents with me, which allows me to see their progress and make comments without having to collect any paper from them. Another great thing about Google Apps is the ability to access it anywhere the students have internet. For them, it's like having a built-in flash drive via the internet.

I haven't used Google Apps with my students yet but am looking forward to showing them how to use it. It will be very useful for them when they are transfering work from school to home.

There is now a comment feature in DOCs, so a teacher can comment on student work without messing up the original. Comments show up as highlighting.

This is a free resource for students and staff that allows them to input the bibliographic information from the resources they have used and it will create the citation for them. Users are able to choose MLA or APA styles, which will help both our students here and adults who may be taking graduate level courses.

Bogs are a great way for students to collaborate on a subject. They can work together to create a blog or use the teacher created blog to ask questions and comment on specific topics.

The Info Please site provides the same type of information as the traditional almanac. It is great for current events, statistical information, or facts about a wide variety of topics. One drawback for this site when using it with students is that it has advertising banners.

Part of the Newseum website, this link will give you access to the front pages of more than 800 different newspapers from around the world. You can search by name or region. You will even find several newspapers from Wisconsin! Copyright laws still apply.

Very cool. This gives me a great idea about how to show students that are major issues are not always viewed in the same way in different parts of the country. You have just helped me create a much stronger persuasive essay unit. Thanks,Greg.

The Fact Monster website provides elementary students with an online almanac. It contains similar resources found on the Info Please website, but Fact Monster is more suitable for elementary students. The site provides fun, engaging games and quizzes as well.

I am excited to try this with my students. I sometimes struggle to find informative sites that are kid friendly so this will be a great additon to the worldbook online.

This website allows teachers to easily create word puzzles such as matching activities, flash cards, crossword puzzles, and word searches. Online versions of these same puzzles can also be used. It also has an online dictionary feature that provides the definition of a word as well as uses it in a sentence and provides different translations. Students can also choose from an extensive list, which dictionary they'd like to use. Some features do require the user to create an account, and there is also a premium account that users can pay a fee for. I'm sure this would open up even more resources, though I did not try this portion.

The Big Six is an information seeking strategy developed by Michael B. Eisenberg and Robert E. Berkowitz that assists students in information problem solving. Teachers and librarians would greatly benefit from this organization tool to get students organized BEFORE they begin their research. Once students have their topics for research, they are able to use the Big Six strategy to guide them through their research. This pdf file will allow students to save it and once saved, they are able to click on comment and type their information into the file. There is another version of the Big Six for elementary called: Plan, Do, Review.

Google Sites allows you to create and share webpages. Google Sites is set up to help you create a web page (easily it states), collect your information all in one place, and control who can view it and edit it, which is a lot like Google Docs. There is also a learn more link where you can view a quick overview video to help get you started: http://www.google.com/sites/help/intl/en/overview.html This would be a great resource tool for collaborating on a group project.

This site has materials useful for learning about genetics, traits, and cells, and microscopes.  There are materials at elementary, middle, and high school levels.

This site has a bunch of different graphic organizer templates ready for downloading and printing.

I like the way this system of note-taking guides the student to first sift their notes for important ideas, then to summarize. Both of those processing activities help learning.

NoteStar works a lot like Google docs in that studetns are able to collect and organize their notes, but has an added feature of preparing the students bibliography page for them.

I do like the added feature of this site to help create the bibliography. No matter how many times you go over bibliographies, they are always a pain for students. This helps alleviate some of that pain.
