This website offers powerful images touching on current events from around the world. While the text would be challenging for most of my elementary students; I think the images are so telling that they would be a useful tool to teach students how to read pictures and some other powerful visual and media literacy skills.

This interesting site provides photographs, letters, newspaper articles, quotes, and famous speeches all related to the life of Gandhi. While the text is probably best suited to middle and high school students, younger students could use other parts of the site to learn about Gandhi for biography projects or studies of passive resistance.

This site offers a plethora of primary source documents from the Civil War. From photographs to battle maps and diaries to speeches this site is a great resource for teaching students to do the real work of historians with primary sources. Instead of copying answers students can make their own, as McKenzie would say.

This fascinating site is filled with information about spies during the America Revolution. Users can explore the letters of spies (both in their original format and a transcribed version) and their stories and techniques. In addition, the site offers a timeline, more information about people of the revolution, and a teacher's lounge with activities and suggestions for using primary sources with all students.

This interesting site offering many documents regarding World War I. Official papers are included but there are also diaries and memorials of every day people. In addition, the site links to other helpful World War I sites.

The Virtual Jamestown Archive is a digital research, teaching and learning project that explores the legacies of the Jamestown settlement and "the Virginia experiment."

This site was developed by educators working with the National Archives. It is an incredible site where you can design your own interactive activity with primary sources. There are seven kinds of activities you can build based on the type of learning you want student to achieve: finding a sequence, focusing on details, making connections, mapping history, seeing the big picture, weighing the evidence, and interpreting data. There are also a lot of really insightful pre-made activities that would work with many different grade levels. This site is just extraordinary! I plan to start using it right away!

This is a wonderful site to help "bring history to life". I love how there are thumb nail images of each photo/drawing and written documents to give you a quick preview. My favorite feature is the interactive activities. This is something worth using with students and sharing with all staff!

This site is hosted by the Alabama Department of Archives and History. It contains lesson plans and primary documents to be used in the lessons about the Civil Rights Movement. Primary documents included are letters, newspaper articles, legal documents, and links to photographs.

This site hosted by the Library of Virginia contains a number of transcriptions of primary documents. The documents (most of which are excerpts from larger texts) are related to Virginia and are organized for time period, for example "A Nation in the Making" or "Virginia and the New South". This site would be useful in a number of American History Units as it contains texts from before the Revolution as well as from the Civil War.

This site uses resources housed by the New York State Library. It is a lesson plan using newspaper articles from two New York newspapers from the late 1800s. The lesson plan includes the documents as well as activities using them. In addition to being a useful lesson plan for the Gilded Age and labor movements, it also serves a model for those wondering how to set up a unit using primary documents.

Similar to our own Nebraska Memories site, this site provides a wealth of information dealing with Kansas history. This includes photos, letters, diaries, government records and much more. They also have the documents organized in a number of ways including topically and by date in addition to search capabilities. This site could be especially helpful when learning about Bleeding Kansas, the Civil War and Plains settlement.

The site offers thousands of pages detailed eyewitness accounts from a number of different groups of people. The documents record the first encounters of the Native Americans and those coming into contact with them for the first time.

This site which began as a class project for the University of Tennessee's School of Information Sciences during the Fall 1994 semester has grown to an extensive site over the years. It contains links to numerous sources for primary documents from the Civil War. Documents which one can be linked most notably include images and maps of battles, but sources from Civil War music and poetry can also be accessed from the page,

This site has 2 of the items on the NeSA-Reading test in April. This site will have videos that have assignment that you can save and modify to your needs.

This site has the math vocabulary for math that is in the NeSA Math test in April. You need to give 3 to 6 words a week. Have students write the definitions and an example for each word.

This is a great site for 4th grade teacher. CRT's are still taken in OPS for social studies and 4th grade has 3 big ones over Nebraska places and people of interest.
