The map lover in me is enthralled with this website. The site contains detailed historical maps organized by themes like "Environmental History" and "The Historical Geography of Transportation". Each map then has links to lesson plans organized by K-2, 3-5, 6-8, and 9-12 with links to additional, applicable primary sources. The site also includes helpful tips for teachers and a useful glossary.

This site gives census information on states, cities and towns throughout the country. It would be a great site to use for figuring percentages in math, comparing and contrasting different cities and states in geography.

The World Factbook was produced for U.S. policy makers. The information is fairly easy to read and comprehend, therefore, students can use the documents, especially on the middle and secondary level. The World Factbook provides information on the history, people, government, economy, geography, communications, transportation, military, and transnational issues for 266 world entities. The government documents they have are maps of the major world regions, Flags of the World, a Physical Map of the World, a Political Map of the World, and a Standard Time Zones of the World map.

This website focuses on the study of geology, geography, our natural resources, and the natural hazards that threaten us. I believe this site is best suited for secondary level students. Government documents include photos, maps, news releases, and videos about all topics in the earth science area. I especially found the "Science In Your Backyard" tab on the right margin interesting. You select a state and a link will allow you to access real time data, statistics, and new releases related to geology and natural resources in that state.

Allows students to take online multiple choice tests to test their knowledge. Tests at 4th, 8th, and 9th grade level. Might be a support item for NESA.

This site has boasts 600+ questions in a database geared to 4th, 8th and 9th grade on civics, economics, geography, math, history, mathematics and science. Students can see how they compare to students nationally and around the world when they challenge themselves answering these questions.

The space exploration info and visuals are fantastic. Space: the sun and planets as well as daily/yearly patterns in the sky are studied second semester at my grade level and this site will be a frequent visit for my students. The research links will be great for the discovery process and increase student motivation, because they can lead their own investigations. Site works well for Geography as well.

Hundreds of free activities and lesson plans for educators in the areas of social studies and geography. Also includes printable maps of nearly every continent and country. The interactive museum allows students to take geography journeys to mountain ranges, archaeological digs, outer space, and other animations.

This site has links to information on some of the states. Nebraska is one of the states with a link and there is a wide variety of information included about the state.

While I directed my search to Nebraska once on this site, many of the other state sites that I checked out were really cool. I imagine upper elementary would benefit from this site for projects, but I could utilize this site in my Flat Stanley project. Flat Stanley is sent to my student's families in other states (countries) and we compare and contrast the physical geography, natural resources and climate. This site would allow me to do that while showing the students some specific historical/cultural aspects not experienced through typical research.

This site has an abundance of information related to most classroom uses. It has information on English, math, science, geography, history, art etc. There are short power points to show to students, worksheets and many other ways to use this site. It will be helpful to teacher in more than one area.

Facts about states presented in kid friendly format, information is up-to-date, would be a nice companion piece for states research done in fourth grade. Consider pulling data from this site to use in making charts and graphs (fifth grade). This site, sponsored by the US Census Bureau, introduces elementary students to basic information gathered in the US Census. The student clicks on a state and is given information about that specific state, including population, age of residents, the number of households, and the urban and rural populations. Information is offered for the 1990 and 2000 census, so students can compare figures.

I like the chronological organization of this website and the way authors have embedded primary sources into the text about Nebraska. I also appreciate they way the timeline focuses on "Nebraska Events and Themes" but also includes "National" and "International" events. With each event the site offers Teacher Activities with lesson plans, tools, and media to share with students.

This site has everything Nebraska. Click on the Nebraska Time line and you are taken to a more detailed timeline for that period. Then click on an event and you are taken to a page with specific resources and information. There are also lesson plans to download for grades 4, 8, and 12. It is pretty easy to navigate this site.

This site introduces students to the Secretary of State and the job of diplomacy. There are news links for important international events. Resources are available for parents and educators and a passport game for K-6.

This site has a lot of primary source documents about Wisconsin history, but which certainly pertain to the rest of the Midwest, too. The one linked to is of an 1838 newspaper article about the first careful investigation of effigy mounds undertaken in Wisconsin. Certainly this could be useful when studying Native American history, state history, or geography.

This is the official site for the Ken Burns series on National Parks. Here you can watch clips of the series. There are sections on the history of national parks and the people often associated with the parks. There are lesson plans for upper grades for various episodes. There are also learning modules for digital story telling that I found very interesting.

This site has lesson plans and activities for various grades. It also has virtual tours of farms. Has information specific to each state's agriculture. There are pages specific for teachers, students, teens and kids.

I really like this site. It has information on the current Iditarod dog race in Alaska. There are blogs you can follow and a special "Teacher on the Trail" section that is specific to helping classes follow the race, and understand it. There is a reading project, a writing to the mushers project, and virtual field trips.

This site is by NASA. It has information on space and Mars exploration. There are games and activities for students. There are a variety of multimedia resources. There are also pages on global climate change. This site also contains lesson plans for teachers for grades 1-12.

This site has been of interest to every teacher I tell about it. It contains virtual trips of a large variety of books for all age groups. You need google maps to use this site as it is map based. Takes books to where they take place and shows you on the map or with photos of what the characters would see. A new way to look at books.

This is a NASA site that had sections geared for students. There are also lesson plans for all grades, K-12. There are also a variety of mulitmedia resources. Some of the information that can be found is NASA's history, earth, technology, space, space missions, and how NASA had affected our lives.
