This University of Washington home page provides access to primary documents, photographs, projects related to the Native American tribes. The initial page allows you to access tribal documents and other collections by country subsections. There is a specific section on Omaha as well as documents on Wounded Knee in the Midwest link. The site accesses many university projects relating to Native Americans, including University of Arizona and University of Oklahoma, all legitimate sites. This would be a great site for social studies students in OPS schools where eighth graders learn about the Trail of Tears and other significant Native American events.

This site is maintained by Texas Woman's University and is a very informative site on the history of the WASP program, and the women who participated. The University also has an exhibit in their library honoring WASPs.

This site seems to be a very good one. It has many images of various happenings in the history of the U.S. It has historical statistics of the United States. There are more research tools available through this site. It is related to Yale University.

This site is presented by the Virginia Center for Digital History and the University of Virginia Library. It showcases two communities during the Civil War. One count was in the north, and one was in the south. It provides an interesting case study of life on both sides of the war. Students and teachers can use this site to compare maps, letters, diaries, newspaper articles, speeches and records in both communities. It also organizes the war into three eras: the eve of war, the war years, and the aftermath.

This site which began as a class project for the University of Tennessee's School of Information Sciences during the Fall 1994 semester has grown to an extensive site over the years. A project of Emory University, this website contains database information for slave ship voyages across the Atlantic. It has tables, timelines, essays, maps and images related to the slave trade plus an African names database. There is a section with lesson plans for middle/high school level students and additional web resources. This website humanizes the transportation history of slavery in the Americas.

This website from the Immigration History Research Center and the University of Minnesota has collections of digitized letters written by immigrants and to immigrants. It contains original images of the letters as well as translations, since most letters are in languages other than English. This website allows students a first person perspective of the challenges faced by immigrants to the U.S.

This is a fantastic place to go for elementary classrooms. There are virtual tours for students to view on a wide variety of topics. The universe tour fits perfectly into our study of the planets.

An excellent site for social studies research with major documents from pre-colonial to the present. I searched for primary documents about the civil war and found this site.

Next time you are in Chicago, go to the Oriental Museum at the University of Chicago - incredible! But until then, check out their website for images of artifacts, maps, video interviews with archaeologists, and lesson plans.

The University of Iowa Archives have put online scans of Civil War diaries, including soldiers held at Andersonville Prison, with full transcriptions to make sense of that 1800s penmanship.

This site was helpful to me as someone who has not been teaching for 10 years and is trying to understand all the terminology and technology involved in searching for information.
