This site would be a great addition to a civil war unit because it uses documents from Jefferson Davis, the president of the Confederacy. It would help to present both sides of the war to students. Often in teaching the civil war, we neglect to explain some of the ways that the South felt slighted and it would make for a good analysis for students to be able to view and examine the papers of Jefferson Davis.

The Harry S. Truman Library website has a plethora of primary sources in audio, video and government documents. The videos alone contain 500 films from 1934 to 1984, Many feature Truman in some way. Their online documents are organized by important topics. For instance, there is a collection of primary source/govt docs relating to the atomic bombings in Japan. One is even a letter from Einstein to Truman. These documents would be very useful in connection with the 8th grade Nebraska social studies curriculum, where they discuss WWII. The collection on Japanese Americans in WWII would also be great for the high school American History courses.

This site has a lot of activities that can be used in the classroom while using the SmartBoard. The activities are grouped by the content area they would support.

This is a wonderful site that would be useful to school librarians or technology teachers to help plan lessons on internet use, using primary documents and media literacy.

This site is jam-packed with information for girls around ages 8 on up.Learn all about your body, fitness, nutrition, illness and disability, drugs, feelings, relationships, bullying, safety, future life, and envionmental health. Textual format is easy to read with countless links provided. Actual photos displayed. In the fourth grade in Lincoln, our students learn all about their bodies with the girls and boys separated so this website would definitely be a place to direct our girls for further related information.

I used to teach piano lessons and I absolutely fell in love this with this website.

Attractive web design with simulations of satellites stations. Good job of explaining reconnaissance and satellites. Includes audio with separate buttons for elementary and secondary students. Recommended for grades 3 - 8. Provides links with extensive resources for parents and teachers.

This site is exciting! Using satalite images, the site creates books on different topics, including games, simulations, the use of satellites, the solar system and more. The main page provides links for K-5, 6-12, parents, and teachers. The teacher link includes lesson plans, a link to the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum, plus many more additional links.

This site is a national history education clearinghouse. It's beautifully designed, well organized and inviting to the user. Divided into three main sections -- teaching materials, history content and best practices. It provides reviews of history websites and collections. One especially cool feature is "Beyond the Textbook," which asks a historical question and looks at how the question is addressed by textbooks vs. historians vs. primary sources.

The Newseum is an actual brick and mortar museum located in Washington, D.C. Its website contains an eye-opening feature called "Today's Front Pages," which publishes front pages from newspapers around the world (see link on the right sidebar). Excellent source for teaching Media Literacy by demonstrating how differences in societies and cultures frame news stories differently. Especially fitting for journalism and social studies classes. Varies from many of my chosen sites because it displays current primary sources.

On a note of local interest for all OPS teachers, the Media Technology Center Library and the Joslyn Art Museum have worked together to provide classroom access to these historical, informational traveling exhibits. From Douglas County History to Native American History, call 557-2500 and have the trunks delivered to your classrooms to use for two full weeks. I work in this department one day a week -- and was totally thrilled to be introduced to these marvelous sets of get-your-hands-on primary sources. They can be used in primary grades through high school.

This website is designed for use in education and features historical documents and images of historical artifacts, mainly from early american history in New England. Super cool tool in the Just 4 Kids section is the Magic Lens -- which "translates" old cursive writing of primary documents into a more easily read font. I also found interesting the images of everyday artifacts. Excellent resource for "Thanksgiving" history.

This interesting site provides photographs, letters, newspaper articles, quotes, and famous speeches all related to the life of Gandhi. While the text is probably best suited to middle and high school students, younger students could use other parts of the site to learn about Gandhi for biography projects or studies of passive resistance.

The National Archives does a great job of creating lesson plans to use with primary documents. This would be a great resource to guide teachers through the process of integrating primary documents that go along with their curriculum objectives. The website is easy to navigate so you can quickly access the information that is needed.

This page allows you to search historical newspaper articles throughout history. Students would love this site to research events throughout history by looking at these old newspapers.

This site offers newspaper pages from 1860 to 1992 from various states, including Nebraska. Seeing the front page headlines from a newspaper printed at the time of a historical event could give students a better understanding of how people living at that time viewed the event.

This site has many primary documents throughout our history. There are 362 searchable primary document collections. As I looked through this site, it seemed to have a lot of photos throughout history. It would be a valuable resource to any multimedia project in the media center.

Researchers can locate primary sources by topic, such as African American, Asian Americans, Civil War, Native Americans, just to name a few. Photos can be enlarged and pdf sheet music can be printed. Great resource for history, art, and literature.

Having videos of individual's remembering these specific historical events related to Nebraska history from would be a powerful resource for students. This would be a great resource to use along with other primary documents.

The NPAHE has links to Nebraska historical documents and photos along with connections to other events in US history. There are primary documents, links to additional resources and lesson plans to help put everything together.

An index for the study of infectious disease and disease prevention. The site contains information on all diseases from arthritis to yellow fever. Health classes will find this web resource a valuable tool for projects or writing assignments involving disease. The amount of content for each disease is amazing, detailing information on transmission, vaccines, symptoms, and prevention. Diagrams or images are often given highlighting the microscopic view of the disease itself.

This site is a small part of the larger site hosted by the Environmental Protection Agency where students can learn about the importance of recycling and reducing waste. A linked town map provides information and activities on several different recycling methods and recycling awareness. Includes a fun game called dump town which is an excellent reinforcement activity.
