This interesting site provides photographs, letters, newspaper articles, quotes, and famous speeches all related to the life of Gandhi. While the text is probably best suited to middle and high school students, younger students could use other parts of the site to learn about Gandhi for biography projects or studies of passive resistance.

The National Archives does a great job of creating lesson plans to use with primary documents. This would be a great resource to guide teachers through the process of integrating primary documents that go along with their curriculum objectives. The website is easy to navigate so you can quickly access the information that is needed.

This site contains a wealth of resources for teachers. They have primary source sets that include teacher resource booklets and lesson plans. One of the sets I found useful was one on the Constitution that included newspaper articles and original documents that trace the drafting and adoption of the Constitution and Bill of Rights. This set would be useful for all grade levels for Constitution day materials in September. There was also an interesting primary source set on Thanksgiving that had paintings and photographs showing historical perspectives on American Thanksgiving traditions.

While the Library of Congress website is vast, I found the Classroom Resources section under the Teachers heading to be beneficial for my current position as a third grade classroom teacher; although many of the items I saw could be used at any elementary grade level. I found the Primary Sources by State and Immigration Challenges to be beneficial to my current unit in my district's SS program. The Thanksgiving link would be interesting for the students to see and discover things they didn't know before celebrating this holiday. I'll definitely use this site with my students, because it goes so well with what we're studying. Plus, it creates a more 'real' experience than their textbook allows.

This site has many primary documents throughout our history. There are 362 searchable primary document collections. As I looked through this site, it seemed to have a lot of photos throughout history. It would be a valuable resource to any multimedia project in the media center.

This site includes digital photographs, sheet music and background information on artifacts. Researchers can locate primary sources by topic, such as African American, Asian Americans, Civil War, Native Americans, just to name a few. Photos can be enlarged and pdf sheet music can be printed. Great resource for history, art, and literature.

This site uses primary images along with videos about topics like the Great Depression and Dust Bowl. Having videos of individual's remembering these specific historical events related to Nebraska history from would be a powerful resource for students. This would be a great resource to use along with other primary documents.

This site has different links for all age groups including safety tips, a day in the life of an agent and FBI history. This site could be used in conjunction with literature where students could compare the day in the life of a real FBI agent compared to a fictional agent in a novel. It could also be used with the study of government.

This is a very kid friendly site. There are nonfiction articles on this site that are very engaging. The nonfiction articles that are available are great for monitoring comprehension because of the high interest level. This site provides education and information for kids of all ages.

The NPAHE has links to Nebraska historical documents and photos along with connections to other events in US history. There are primary documents, links to additional resources and lesson plans to help put everything together.

This site provided a simple method called SOAP in introducing students to primary sources as well as some explicit and direct instruction examples. (S=What kind of source? O=What's the occasion? A=Who's the audience? P=What's the purpose?) Additionally, it had 10-45 minute lesson plans for implementing primary documents in topics like the Montgomery Bus Boycott and Sugar in the Modern World. It provided a variety of extra resources: children's trade books, websites, standards and skills addressed, as well as how to get students to think critically about history.

Over 133 links to sites with primary documents covering a variety of topics including American journeys and exploration (Lewis and Clark), Tracking Buffalo, Salem Witchcraft Trials and even some modern topics like Bob Hope and American Variety, and Immigration Today. About a dozen of these 133 links were directed towards teacher and lesson plans, so I liked that this site had so many others wrapped into one. This site also had primary documents for all subject areas: Art, Music, Math, S.S., Science, Writing, Reading, and even Physical Education. There's something for everyone here!

What a great site to explain energy. My 3rd graders learn about potential energy, kinetic energy, light and sound energy, etc. This site will provide great information and resources when I begin this Energy unit in November. With an outdated textbook, I'll rely more and more on sites like this to explain the possibilities of new energies, especially as our natural resources deplete and we rely on finding new ones or utilizing renewable resources.

What a fun site. The games were great because there were so many applications: SS, Science, Math and more. I loved seeing how the quarter was made and comparing and contrasting it to coins across the world. I've already used this site with my class, because a couple of my students filled out wanting to know more about other country's coins in the KWL for our current SS chapter. They LOVED seeing this!

The space exploration info and visuals are fantastic. Space: the sun and planets as well as daily/yearly patterns in the sky are studied second semester at my grade level and this site will be a frequent visit for my students. The research links will be great for the discovery process and increase student motivation, because they can lead their own investigations. Site works well for Geography as well.

Facts, trivia, history, comparisons to other states, maps, almanacs, and more on this kid friendly site. When searching 'primary sources' in their search field brings a ton of other topics connecting to all subject areas including Math, Science, etc. Lots of information and links that take kids to safe sites for further data on whatever they're interested in.

An index for the study of infectious disease and disease prevention. The site contains information on all diseases from arthritis to yellow fever. Health classes will find this web resource a valuable tool for projects or writing assignments involving disease. The amount of content for each disease is amazing, detailing information on transmission, vaccines, symptoms, and prevention. Diagrams or images are often given highlighting the microscopic view of the disease itself.

This site is a small part of the larger site hosted by the Environmental Protection Agency where students can learn about the importance of recycling and reducing waste. A linked town map provides information and activities on several different recycling methods and recycling awareness. Includes a fun game called dump town which is an excellent reinforcement activity.

This website is your one stop shop for everything Earth day related. Earth comes only once a year so use this resource to get the job done right. Students will learn the history of earth day, and the source offers several activities from crafts to poetry contests.

The department of the CIA (central intelligence agency) which includes a kids department where students can learn about the CIA, its history, and objectives. The CIA K-9s are especially interesting, and there are puzzles, word finds, and other games kids can play while they learn.

A place for art and culture, literature and language arts, foreign language, and social studies. Includes a vast collection of grade level lesson plans and activities for those areas mentioned above. The monthly features are especially entertaining. For example this month features spotlights on Hispanic heritage month, and the history and origins of Halloween and Day of the Dead celebrations.

This website is a must for science teachers. Numerous Internet-based lesson plans and activities can be found here. Nearly all of these lessons are linked to common science standards and science literacy standards. Students can listen to the weekly podcast on breaking science news or stories. What is really cool is the resource navigator which helps science educators find other online resources dealing with their topic of study.

The largest maritime museum in North America. The website provides valuable information on seafaring and oceanic voyages. The online image collection features over 2,000 images for personal or commercial use. Use this site as a primary resource for the study of explorers in Social Studies. Several biographies are given for explorers like John Cabot, Vasco Balboa, Magellan, and Amerigo Vespucci.
