Explain Everything is a screencasting app for the iPad. It costs $2.99 in the App Store and no account is needed to use it. This iPad app is designed for educational professionals and students alike, to create projects and record them as screencasts. It is a powerful tool and flexible app that is easy to use. Students use Explain Everything to make collaborative projects using multiple mediums. The recording feature allows foreign language students to create speaking samples with their projects, which can be used to measure progress with language proficiency in a digital portfolio. Teachers can use the recording feature to create a lecture capture. Projects can be designed directly in Explain Everything or files such as presentations, photos, notes, and videos can be imported into the app to create a project that can be annotated with pencil or text, narrated, recorded, and shared in a variety of ways, uploading to Photo Roll, You Tube, Email, Drop Box, and Evernote. Explain Everything can be used by both teachers and students as an interactive whiteboard tool for presentational purposes, when connected to an Apple TV or projector.

A free tool that lets you embed an audio message into your website - an appropriate tool for the 610 course!  You can record a message by phone or mic, use the text-to-speech feature, or upload your own mp3 audio files.   You can even choose from 25 languages and 100+ voices.  Very cool indeed.

PopuLLar: Motivating secondary school students to learn languages through their music - 0 views

  •
Students are encouraged to write their own lyrics to songs of their choice, translate them into the target language, record them (audio or video), and share with the world.  This is an excellent way of incorporating 21st century skills, ISTEs, ACTFL standards, and more.  This could require collabortion, too.    This project is 'owned' by the students - teachers just guide the process.  Many examples and support available.

Thanks for sharing this Nick. I'm really considering how to implement online portfolios in my classroom next year and this looks like a wonderful site!
  •
I like this as well. I was exploring this site for a while and could not find a lot of information before signing up.
  •
Nick, seems like a great tool that teachers could utilize easily. I tried to explore a bit to find information about cost and storage etc. and could not find anything. Do you know more about this?
  •
Thank you for sharing. Portfolios have always been a great asset for our classes but online are getting even more relevance now as most departments are making them a priority for many languages and disciplines
  •
Sabine, With regards to cost, it is free. I am unsure about how much storage that they give you to use on the site. That was something that was not talked about at the conference where I discovered the tool.

Can you upload video and/or recordings?

Take screenshots and screencasts for free, with Jing - 0 views

Jing, together with Camtasia Studio and Screencast are an amazing product. You record with Jing, save it into an MP4 with Camtasia and publish it to others with Screencast. These are by far my favorite tools, but I have never used them with students. WIth jing you can share your screen and talk over what you are seeing on the screen. Camtasia gives you the ability to edit what you created, add in call outs, zoom and pan, pixilate images, use tools like circles, arrows, dialog bubbles, etc. and then publish them with a URL to share with others. I would love to use this tool with students.
