Social Studies (1): This is a great website that can be used to gain lesson plan ideas. It is separated by grade level, topic, and how many class periods a teacher wants to spend on a certain subject. There are 400 social studies/history topics to choose from including both American and world history. Teachers can print off worksheets for students, get activity ideas, etc. It is very user-friendly and contains a ton of information. It is a government-funded website, so it is currently not being maintained due to funding shutdowns; however, a lot of the topics are still useful and relevant because the information will never be outdated.

Go Social Studies Go's tag line is "History Meets Humor". The mission of this site is to make history fun and interesting for students to learn about. It has several different events or people that visitors to the site can click on. It is organized by US history and World History. Once you click on a topic, you are provided with a large array of information on it. There are visuals, such as newspaper clippings, text boxes, photographs, quotes, etc. that really make things memorable. There is also an educational but simplified description of the event that is written in a way that will appeal to students. It is not long and boring, rather it is something that students can relate to.

This is a great website for a Colonial times game. The site allows for students to play an interactive Social Studies game that is based off of American History. This would be a fun game for students to play in their down time.

For this website you can chose between U.S. History, world history, geography, economics, civic and government, and elementary social studies. There are different resources like videos, interactive lessons, lesson plans, and so many others, and you can filter by what grade level you are teaching. How I would use this in my classroom is, I can use the lesson plans, pull videos, or use any interactive lessons.

America's history through America's art. This website is a great resource for lesson plans and ideas for activities! I would particularly use this for ideas about teaching the early times of the United States. It has great lesson plans and students resources- it breaks difficult topics down into easy to understand key events!

History Rap Songs - Teaching U.S. History - Flocabulary - 0 views

  •
This site has raps to go along with specific historical events. It requires a membership to use. It allows for a free 90 trial for teachers. Some schools may already have a membership, however it has so many great ideas and sites I'm sure it your school would see the value in the membership. If nothing else you could plan to use it in one specific semester and use the free trial and have a different teacher do the same thing the following year and so on.

This website would be perfect for opening up class each week when talking about Social Studies. It offers a couple of this week in history this happened scenerios. It also offers multiple topics to view such as government, cultures, economics, etc.
  •
Why I chose this site: I chose this site because social studies can often be a dry, boring, and uninteresting subject for kids. This site has lots of cool subjects and topics that can be relevant to kids. How I'm going to use this site: I could use this site in several ways. I could use it to talk about current events that are happening today or I could use it to teach kids about the past that we can longer experience first hand. This site could be used as a whole class, or, it could be used independently for research projects. It's nice too because it's kid focused so they wont run into topics, pictures, etc., that aren't kid friendly.

This website talks about current events, geography, and holidays. It includes past history around the civil war period and Renaissance. This website contains stories and information about important history periods. Also, there are helpful fun facts and glossaries to help students with social studies.
  •
This site provides information about geography, government, war, middle ages, and many other areas that are studied in school. I like that it provides current events information as well. This site could be used in class if you wanted your students to write about something currently going on in the world, or even to research something from the past.

This website is very helpful for social studies lessons. There are many mini lessons to choose from for every grade and lessons on geography, the government and american history. I enjot hand on activities in lessons and a few of the lessons suggestions include making a play doh map of your state or making maps. There are also instructional lessons like how to read a map or lessons on current events. This would be very helpful for an older grade level and to get more in depth on what is going on today.

This interactive website could be very useful in very many different situations in the classroom. There are many different topics like The Civil War, Immigration, Continents, and so many more things. Students can use this website when they are learning about any of the following topics. There are games and also informational readings to go with them.
  •
This is similar to the math site I posted except it is for social studies. Again, the students pick which area they need/want to practice and they can click that area to play games pertaining to that section. I click on the states/capitals. If you click on the states, it says the capital, the flag, the motto, etc. This would be a great site if you want students to do research on different states and then design the flag for that state. It could be used for anything. Amber Koth

I like that this site can be used for all different grade levels. I also like that if need you can "ask an expert." If I were to use this in a class room I think it would be helpful for researching states due to its "State Facts" section. I also think it would be fun to look at the section "This Day in History" daily to learn something new each day!

Helium is a social studies website. It goes in to a great deal of detail on American history, geography, current events, Native Americans, civil war, government and much more. It also gives you other websites to go to where you are able to find mini lessons on a president or resources related to social studies.
