Online video has been growing as a primary tool for distance learning, and now it's picking up more speed within education for a second reason. Flipped classroom experiences allow teachers to assign lecture videos to be watched outside the classroom, allowing them to spend more quality group and individual time with students in the classroom and resulting in positive learning results. There's a long-term multiplier effect here, too - as these students enter the workforce, they'll be taking expectations for these new modes of video learning and consumption with them to their employers.

Wikimedia is considering support for H.264 video codec to boost video on Wikipedia

Hardware support will be very beneficial as Google begins pushing 4K / Ultra HD resolutions via YouTube. Really interesting article about the latest codec war for WebRTC (and the Cisco move on open sourcing their h.264 codec (and paying the licensing fees !). The HTML5 war may seem finished, but it's just continuing on the WebRTC front. Too bad that the HTML5 spec did'nt enforce a mandatory to implement (MTI) codec...

Quite interesting comment from Cisco : "The source code will be open source and distributed with a BSD lIcense. The binary module is separate and when the users software downloads it from Cisco, that is when we are responsible for paying the MPEG LA royalties. - Nadee Gunasena, Cisco PR". So it may mean that mozilla will include the binary module as provided by Cisco, and not use the source code...
