China - Copper imports up 11.8% m-o-m and 3.3% y-o-y in September - 0 views

  •
China's General Administration of Customs announced on 12th October that imports of copper rose by 11.8% m-o-m to 380,526t in September. This represents 3.3% y-o-y growth and the highest level of imports since May 2010. Nevertheless, many market insiders were disappointed by these figures, expecting higher levels of imports. China's tightening credit market and concerns over economic slowdown in Europe meant that Chinese copper demand did not grow as strongly as anticipated.

China - refined copper consumption growth set to slow in 2012 - 0 views

  •
According to Antaike, a metals research group, China's growth in refined copper consumption is set to slow in the coming year. The group forecasts consumption growth of 6.4% in 2012, compared to expected growth of 8.5% this year and 11.5% growth in 2010. This slowdown in consumption is likely to put downward pressure on copper prices, which have recently fallen to the lowest levels this year on eurozone and US debt concerns. Tight credit as well as struggling automotive sales, fewer new-home start-ups and declining railroad investment were quoted as key contributors to slowing refined copper demand.

Siemens announces investments in Russia of €1 billion - 0 views

  • n addition to the energy segment, rail technology is also a very promising market in Russia – and one for which Siemens and its Russian partners can provide high-tech solutions. The joint venture established in Yekaterinburg with Russia's Sinara Group in 2010 has already received more than €3 billion in orders for the production of advanced freight locomotives and regional trains. Local manufacturing capacity – in particular, for the production of regional trains – will now be substantially expanded through investments of several hundred million euros. Siemens' joint venture in St. Petersburg for the production of drives systems for trains will also be expanded through additional investments of over €20 million.

Show report: Graphene supply, application and commercialization 2014 (Manchester, UK) - 0 views

  • It’s been 10 years since graphene was isolated by Geim and Novoselov at Manchester University in the UK. Today, graphene is available to purchase from a range of suppliers, you can buy equipment for growing it on wafers and foils and you can find graphene in products on the market, but the so-called “wonder material” is still in the early stages of its commercial journey.

Die cast aluminum coils for efficient electric motors - 2 views

  •
Note that these coils could also be perfectly made out of copper, combining all the advantages of the new design with the advantages with copper. For bigger motors beyond pedelecs, such designs have been or are currently being developed (Copper Alliance worked in 2005-2010 with automotive OEMs in this area).

Review of critical metal dynamics to 2050 for 48 elements - ScienceDirect - 3 views

  • There are also many studies on copper in the case of nuclear, geothermal and biomass power plants.
  • Elshkaki and Graedel (2015) further estimated future demand for tellurium, selenium, indium, and germanium for the deployment of solar PV, highlighting the possibility of an oversupply of copper and zinc if these host metals are mined according to by-product demand.
