The Sourcebook for Teaching Science: Periodic Tables - 0 views

  •
What is this thing, this periodic table? It's a crucial part of chemistry, and millions of students encounter this fine and elegant visualization of substances every year. Professor Norman Herr has created this helpful trove of resources and links that can be used by both teachers and students. The items here are divided into four sections: Online Periodic Tables, Tables for Printing, Periodic Table Powerpoint Presentations, and Classroom and Laboratory Activities to Build Understanding of the Periodic Table. The first section here offers five great dynamic versions of the periodic tables, complete with helpful links to outside resources and related materials. Also, the Classroom and Laboratory Activities area includes two fun activities, one presents the colors of the periodic table and the other is a chapter from the b ook "Hands-on Chemistry." MBCurl.me - A link shortening service from My Big Campus - 0 views

Have you ever tried to send someone a link or post it in a presentation, but the url is so long, it is impossible to type in correctly?  You may have tried URL shorteners such as tinyurl or bit.ly, only to discover that these services are BLOCKED on our network.  This is necessary because this allows students to bypass our filter by using the shortening service to access inappropriate content.  HOWEVER, this service, provided by Lightspeed Systems, our internet filter solution, allows you to shorten urls only for sites that are not blocked by the lightspeed filter, so these links WILL be unblocked on our network.  Enjoy!

  •
In a press release on Monday, August 19, PARCC, the assessment consortium developing the CCSS tests, announced the release of additional paper-based sample test items in ELA and math. This is great news for us as we work to implement CCSS and PARCC-like assessment in our classrooms. On the PARCC website, you will see a list of links for each grade level and subject in the left sidebar. Visiting each link brings you to a page with a table describing the kinds of tasks that will appear on the PARCC assessment. Links to the sample items are within this table. Let us know if you have any questions!

Regarding Relevance, I would probably add a check to decide if the app is grade-appropriate and that it will support student growth toward mastery of curricular standards, lesson objectives, etc.
