"National PTA® created the guides for grades K-8 and two for grades 9-12 (one for English language arts/literacy and one for mathematics).
The Guide includes:
Key items that children should be learning in English language arts and mathematics in each grade, once the standards are fully implemented.
Activities that parents can do at home to support their child's learning.
Methods for helping parents build stronger relationships with their child's teacher.
Tips for planning for college and career (high school only)."
These guides are available in English & Spanish to help parents understand the transition to the Common Core: what it means for their children and how to help at home.
Check out Miss Hill's Digital Hallway link at the bottom of her page. This is great way that she shares student work displays with parents who can't get into the building. Miss Hill adds a QR code for the display video to her newsletter so parents can access it from their smartphones as well! Great idea!
Mind Leap makes sure that parents and educators know which apps are educational and which aren't, which keep kids engaged and which bore them to tears. And, we encourage developers to build great stuff that turns kids on to learning.
"a group of researchers in MIT's Education Arcade are trying to harness the power of MMO games to teach high school students to think like scientists and mathematicians. Their game, The Radix Endeavor, is designed to be an educational game, and capitalizes on the interactions students can have as a way to build their knowledge and skills.
Radix, as it's known, is aligned to the Next Generation Science Standards for biology, focusing on topics like genetics, evolution, ecology and human body systems. In math, the game is aligned to the Common Core and has particular focuses on algebra, probability and statistics, as well as geometry. The researchers worked with Filament Games and are funded by the Gates Foundation for the three-year project."

"To engage students in making design decisions that affect the transfer of energy \nbetween a building and the outside environment. To help students identify and \nconsider the types of decisions involved in improving a building's energy \nprofile. To analyze the green roof option in economic and community terms."
One of the wonders of the Internet is that it can bring the world to you instead of your needing to find the time and money to explore the traditional way. The following virtual tours bring opportunities to explore cities, famous landmarks and buildings, museums, college campuses, and even outer space. You can learn how things are made, explore the human body or that of a life-sized whale, and visit ball parks and theme parks. There is even a section of incredible virtual tours that Google Earth has compiled that shares the world in a whole new way.

Teachers...Make a Wish
Just like a gift registry, you build a wish list of technology products for your classroom. Then you can tell prospective donors how their support will make a difference to your students. After a purchase, Digital Wish automatically donates an additional 2%-10% in funding for your next technology project!
