"The Interesting Ways to Use series has been really successful. I measure their success in how useful they are to teachers and other educators in helping with professional development. They have been a great example of crowdsourcing good quality classroom ideas and it has been great fun connecting with all of the people who have taken time to add an idea. It is remarkable what can be achieved and created together if you give people the right way to do it. Thanks for all the help so far. It all began with One Idea, One Slide and One Image as a premise for the IWB presentation and that has always remained. I hope we can all continue to create them - let me know if you have any other ideas for a presentation. I wanted to keep the family together in one place and give you one page to see them all, as so many of you have requested. Don't forget that if you want to contribute an idea just let me know and I will give you access to share your thoughts."

Great teacher example - and a world language teacher!

The table contains all the usual information you find in a periodic table of elements, but then under each element, it lists real-world items that contain that element. This opens up a new avenue of projects for Science teachers where students can not only learn the different elements, but then connect them to real world uses and even explore the method in which the element is applied. For example, assigning a student to report on radon, they'll see it's a key element in earthquake predictors.

Wolfram/Alpha is to be the first web-based tool that can find answers to all systematic knowledge in the world. For educators, this "computational iknowledge engine" can find objective and fact-based answers for a variety of subject areas. Type in "Newton's Law," for example, and the formula for force is explained. Enter in an equation for a line, and the site plots the line on a graph. Ask "What is the GDP of the United States and Canada?" and a chart depicts a side-byside comparison of the nations' economic data.

Add voice to photos

Yodio enables students to create and participate in individual or collaborative digital storybooks using a mobile phone. For example: a class of 1st graders on a trip to the zoo creates a collaborative digital sotrybook with Yodio concerning what they learned about the animals on the trip. Each parent chaperone has a group of four or five students, who take turns calling in to the yodio phone number (on the parent chaperone's phone) and recording their observations about an animal, perhaps even capturing the animal's sound. Students also take a picture of their chosen animal with the cell phone. Back at school, the students log in to Yodio and create a digital sotrybook combining their recorded narrations and photos.

Choose an example of the problem and there is a walk-through of the problem. I think that this will be a GREAT assist for homework help.

Ed-tech administrators and educators looking for original and third-party web resources can use the educational Technology Clearinghouse as an online launch pad. The tech Ease resource, for example, is a self-help guide that shows how to use many common technology tools in the classroom. Similarly, the No String Attached option offers a variety of video demonstrations about how to use wireless technology and laptop computers. In addition to the tech-development pagegs, FCIT's site offers portal space that hosts thousands of clip-art images and PowerPoint presentation files that can be reused by teachers under a friendly license, which allows them to be used for free for educational and other noncommerical purposes.

Geograffiti creats voice-marks - audio postings to specific map locations. For example, a history teacher assigns his students to create an audio tour about local history. The students go to various historical monuments and buildings in the community and then phone in historical summaries of the significance of these sites to Geograffiti, which places the oral recordings in the appropriate geographic locations on the map. This activity would enable students to research local history, pratice public speaking, and learn geography in one assignment.

Mobile Geotagging allows users to post media (photos, video, audio or text) from a mobile phone to a specific point on a map. Flagr allows users to create public, semiprivate, or private maps. Great tool for teachers in many subject areas to enhance learning. For example, students studying habitats or different biological species can take pictures within their community and then send each picture band a description of where the habitat or species was found. In the classroom the teacher opens up the class flagr map and the students then identify the species and discuss why they were found in each particular habitat.

Mathematics is a live science with new discoveries being made every day. The frontier of mathematics is an exciting place, where mathematicians experiment and play with creative and imaginative ideas. Many of these ideas are accessible to young children. Others (infinity is a good example) are ideas that have already piqued many children's curiosity, but their profound mathematical importance is not widely known or understood. The MegaMath project is intended to bring unusual and important mathematical ideas to elementary school classrooms so that young people and their teachers can think about them together.

OKAPI! is a web-based application that allows you to enter a text sample and to format that sample as a set of Examiner and Student Curriculum-Based Assessment (CBA) reading probes. The application also computes a readability index for the sample. OKAPI! can save you hours of work in creating correctly formatted CBA reading probes that include estimates of reading level. OKAPI! gives you a range of options. You can for example change the font-type and letter-size for the CBA probes. Additionally, you can specify that either the Spache or Dale-Chall Readability Formula be used to compute a passage's readability index.

There are a lot of cool things about DataMasher: the available datasets, the community built around that data, the unique visualization tools, and the easy-to-use interface of the site. What is truly intriguing about the site is the way users take two different datasets and create visual hypotheses. For example, to visualize the Most Reproductive States (US), one user combined the number of US births witH population figures from the 2008 US Census.

Did you notice what happens when you click the "Analyze This" link (right side)? Not sure how to take that. It's funny, but does it also, then, discredit any data that you find there?

The K-6 Literacy Learning Activity Types provides a list of activity types along with the examples of technology that could be used for that activity type.

Daily Grammar provides simple and clear lessons on the basics of English grammar for grades 5-12. Set up in modules of five examples and a follow-up quiz, the simiplicity of the approach and the explanations make this a great site for students to use on their own when they feel they need self-paced remediation or enrichment. Mr. Bill Johanson, the author of the material, is a former junior and high school English teacher, with 30 years experience in the classroom.

Shakespeare searched was created by the Folger Shakespeare Library, in Washington, and allows students to search for specific words within the lines of Shakespeare's plays and sonnets. A keyword search can identify a specific passage in a specific poem or play or find larger meaning and themes within his many works. Search the word "love" for example, pulls hunderds of passages from plays like "Romeo and Juliet," " A Midsummer Night's Dream," and, of course, "Love's Labour's Lost." within each search, common results are grouped by topic. These grouplings or clusters break the search down further to show how many tiems a Shakespearean character used the word love, or find words that are most commonly associated with love.
