DEVELOPING THE INTERCULTURAL DIMENSION IN LANGUAGE TEACHING: A PRACTICAL INTRODUCTINO F... - 1 views

  •
This is a publication of The Council of Europe, " The Council of Europe has a long and well established tradition of developing consensus on the aims and guiding principles of language teaching. Through its programmes of activities and publications it continues to pursue the development of language teaching to meet the needs of the contemporary world. Among its most recent initiatives in this tradition are the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages providing guidelines for teaching, learning and assessment, and the European Language Portfolio which allows learners to plan and reflect upon their learning, and to chart and describe their proficiency. There has also always been a concern to help teachers develop their theory and practice, for example by organising seminars and interaction networks and by publishing compendia which offer examples of good practice." This guide direct teachers to use language as a means to intercultural understanding.

Using Diigo in the Classroom - Student Learning with Diigo - 2 views

  • Classes could use Diigo to review content in a type of fact-checking activity. The internet could be used to research important points of study and see if that information can be confirmed with bookmarks.
  • Teaching students to research is a common standard across all grade levels, elementary, middle school, high school, and beyond. Diigo excels as a research tool: Students can save relevant websites to lists in their Diigo student accounts. Each saved bookmark captures the URL and a screenshot, and can be searched later. Students can highlight important information right on the website, using Diigo. Later, when students return to the website, they find the reason they saved the bookmark in the first place. Students can use virtual sticky notes to summarize the important points of information from the website. This activity will mimic the time-tested procedure of using note cards to summarize and organize research projects. Students working on similar topics can create and join groups in order to collaborate. Later, when students need to document their sources, Diigo can be used to recall website URLs for citing sources.

my students can start research and take it home with them
  •
maybe students will actually be willing to document since it will be easy to fin the source

Be a Good Digital Citizen: Tips for Teens and Parents | Common Sense Media - 3 views

  • Digital Citizenship Tips for Teens For teens, we offer five simple rules of digital citizenship to help them create a world they can be proud of -- and inspire others to do the same. Think before you post or text -- a bad reputation could be just a click away. Before you press the "send" button, imagine the last person in the world that you’d want seeing what you post. What goes around comes around. If you want your privacy respected, respect others' privacy. Posting an embarrassing photo or forwarding a friend’s private text without asking can cause unintended hurt or damage to others. Spread heart, not hurt. If you wouldn’t say it in person, don’t say it online. Stand up for those who are bullied or harassed, and let them know that you’re there for them. Give and get credit. We’re all proud of what we create. Illegal downloading, digital cheating, and cutting and pasting other people’s stuff may be easy, but that doesn’t make it right. You have the responsibility to respect other people’s creative work -- and the right to have your own work respected. Make this a world you want to live in. Spread the good stuff. Create, share, tag, comment, and contribute to the online world in positive ways.
