  • Verizon 4Q Profit Drops 38 Percent; Wireless Sales Up; Data ARPU Increases 63 Percent Posted by David Kaplan Mon 29 Jan 2007 08:58 PM PST Updated below, with details from conference call: Verizon (NYSE: VZ) on Monday reported a 38 percent drop in 4Q profit after divesting several businesses, but the telco added 2.3 million net wireless subscribers during the last three months of 2006. Including the 2.3 million net customers added, the company’s Verizon Wireless business saw its U.S. subscriber base reach 59.1 million, up 15 percent from the same time a year ago. Other highlights included: -- The telecommunications giant had net income of $1.03 billion, or 35 cents a share, for the quarter, down from $1.66 billion, or 59 cents a share, a year ago. -- Verizon’s broadband FTTP network—over which customers receive FiOS Internet and FiOS TV services—passed a total of more than 6 million premises by the end of 2006. -- Revenue in the latest quarter rose 26.1 percent to $22.6 billion. -- On the data side (which includes mobile content, among other things) revenues doubled over the previous year, contributing $4.5 billion in revenues in 2006.  In Q406, data revenues were 15.8 percent of all service revenues, up from 9.8 percent in Q505.  Data service ARPU in Q4 increased by 63 percent over the year-ago quarter.  The company had 34.3 million retail data customers in December—a 44 percent increase over Q405. -- Data made up $7.91 of total service ARPU, up substantially year over year, and $0.75 sequentially. -- About 35% of data revenue comes from business-focused applications. Revenues from its Internet access and e-mail products increased 120% year over year, and more than 50% of its data revenue growth comes from services other than messaging, primarily EVDO-based. -- During Q4, Verizon Wireless customers exchanged 17.7 billion text messages—which it says is a company and industry record (not sure why they claim that)—and 353 million picture/video messages.  Customers also completed more than 78 million downloads of games, ringtones, ringback tones and exclusive content.

Private 5G versus WiFi 6: will there be a winner? - 0 views

  •
For many years, WiFi networks have been augmenting legacy cellular networks. They've help extend connectivity in spaces where cellular coverage wasn't possible. They've also provided a host of revenue-driving benefits for service providers with use cases like WiFi offload, VoWiFi, and the opportunity to partner with affiliates and businesses. Is private 5G set to change that? Private 5G is designed for custom enterprise use cases that require high bandwidth, speeds, reliability, and ultra-low latency over a dedicated and secure network. It can be deployed in manufacturing units, stores, malls, parking lots, and much more. Private 5G provides certain advantages that far exceed those of WiFi, especially in larger and/or outdoor venues. But the new-generation WiFi 6 is a worthy contender. It enables more efficient networks for multiuser access, support for existing WiFi-enabled devices, and the advantage of being an incumbent and easy-to-use technology. Service providers and their customers stand to benefit from both technologies - even by using them in tandem. Alepo AAA vs Open Source AAA Which is Better for Telecom Operators - 0 views

  •
Telecom operators face a critical decision when choosing between managed AAA and open-source AAA solutions. In this video, we delve into the pros and cons of each option to help you make an informed choice. Open-source AAAs are free, but are they viable for deployment? Managed AAAs like Alepo's provide benefits such as: - Enterprise-grade 24/7/365 support and services, ensuring unmatched reliability, whereas an open-source AAA fails to offer any support. - Customization capabilities tailored to operators' unique requirements, in contrast to the in-house expertise necessary for open-source AAA customization. - Ability to handle high-volume traffic and complex network environments, outperforming open-source AAA's scalability and optimization limitations. - Comprehensive support for IPv4, IPv6, Diameter protocol, CoA, and dunning portals, ensuring superior Quality of Service (QoS) compared to open-source AAA. - Seamless integration with multi-vendor networks and IT systems, reducing costs and time-consuming integration challenges associated with open-source AAA. - Robust security features, including data encryption, identity theft protection, and regular security updates, offering unmatched network security compared to open-source alternatives. To learn more about the benefits of a managed AAA, such as Alepo's, and how it can enhance competitiveness, reliability, and security, read our blog post: https://bit.ly/3rgSE1R #AAA #telecomAAA #networksecurity #freevspaid #telecom #AAAserver #telecomAAA #fixedbroadband #highspeedinternet #fttx

How mobile network operators can design a failproof migration strategy - 0 views

  •
Digital transformation is essential for mobile network operators today, as they compete to introduce more digital services for their subscribers. Modernizing their networks requires them to migrate their existing services to a next-gen platform. However, data migration is a massive undertaking for any operator. It involves a host of complex processes and getting them right is crucial, as it involves critical and sensitive information about the network and its customers. Before chalking out their strategy, there are a host of factors that operators must consider. For instance, cleansing data before the actual migration ensures they only transfer what's relevant and essential, and sensitive data needs an added layer of security. Operators also need to define what type of migration is right for them, depending on their network's unique needs. There's no one-size-fits-all strategy. Operators can take the big bang approach or migrate in phases. Next, it's important to understand the intricacies of storage migration, application migration, database migration, and business process migration. At Alepo, we've developed a five-step plan to help devise a failproof migration strategy for our operator-clients. Our robust migration strategy has helped several Tier-1 operators to seamlessly transition to new platforms. Download the white paper to learn about different migration approaches, best practices, recent case studies, and how to plan a seamless migration: https://bit.ly/3Ka17Y0
