Case StudyDigital practice in action: developing digital skills through flexible delivery - 0 views

  •
My winning case study! It illustrates the approach we took to enable a large group of staff to develop the digital skills and knowledge required to confidently deal with a high volume of telephone calls and use software to fill vacant places in Clearing. The group had a mixed skill set and a short amount of time to gain new skills. Using the flipped classroom approach, factual and contextual information was delivered through online activities allowing for the maximum amount of classroom time to be dedicated to gaining practical digital skills. The case study describes what was done, the challenges involved and the solutions we found, impact on the learners and the wider university, and highlights ways this approach can be used at other educational institutions.

Quality. A lot of the (official) emphasis on formative assessment in the classroom (or AfL - assessment for learning, they call it in school-land) is down to this guy, Dylan Wiliam, from when he was an adviser to the government: http://www.journeytoexcellence.org.uk/videos/expertspeakers/formativeassessmentdylanwiliam.asp There was also a TV series - 'The Classroom Experiment' - tracing his tinkering with the teaching practices of a regular secondary: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00txzwp Essential watching, it was! There are still some clips on there...

This free online SMART Technologies course follows on from our Introduction to Using Whiteboards course and goes into much more detail about the use of the Lesson Activity Toolkit and also gives the learner useful tips and techniques to help with editing and using the application. You will be shown examples of the different templates from image sequencing and matching to timelines and anagrams, and where there is flexibility in the use of an activity such as using the timeline for more than dates. This free online SMART Technologies course will be of great interest to teachers and trainers looking to make full use of the flexibility, interactivity and student participation allowed by an interactive whiteboard within the classroom or training room, and to all learners who would like to learn more about the functionality of interactive whiteboards within an educational setting.
