Teachers in Oaxaca, Mexico mounted a peaceful demonstration against the president's visit to the town Police fired tear gas and the military live rounds at protesters from section 22 of the teachers' union SNTE - CNTE who were protesting against the visit of Felipe Calderon. Police  also  attacked the teachers' union building and deployed snipers on rooves. Up to 20 teachers have been injured.

The Saudi Ministry of Education issued a resolution to withdraw from the libraries of public schools several books seen as inciting violence and prohibited book donations without prior approval. Books accused of having a negative impact on school students like the writings of leaders of Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood like Sheikh Hassan al-Banna, the group's founder, and Sayyed Qotb, one of the group's most leading thinkers, the London-based al-Hayat newspaper reported Tuesday.  There are people who support the circulation of those books. Some even print them and distribute them for free without taking into consideration the grave consequences on the students  Former MP Dr. Mohamed al-Zulafi The ministry announced its plan to conduct regular visits to school libraries to ensure that those and similar books are no longer available for students.

A federal task force is calling for financial literacy to be taught as part of the regular school curriculum throughout Canada. The task force said Wednesday having such an important subject ignored in many schools is no longer acceptable.

Statistics show more than half of the 1.3 million candidates who sat for Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) obtained between E and D+, 596,895 candidates attained D+ and below. Over the past four years, at least 100,000 candidates of the 300,000 who sat the KCSE examinations annually do not attain the minimum entry grade for higher education. Half of the 304,000 candidates who took the KCSE exams in 2008 scored below a mean of grade of D+. What happens to these literate 'failures' who leave school believing they are failures?

Jofranka is one of thousands of Roma children in the Czech Republic who have been systematically denied one of the most basic rights: access to a decent education. When she was six years old, though she had never been properly tested, she was sent off to a segregated school for children with learning disabilities. Now, at age 19, she faces a bleak future, with few job opportunities and little chance of rising out of poverty.
