Teachers Without Borders

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, Philippines, 25 January 2012 - In City Central School, in Cagayan de Oro City, two teachers recently held their first day of classes since the devastating floods that swept through their community - even as their own futures looks uncertain. Vivian Benedictos and Marilou Gambuta, co-teachers and best friends, share a first-grade classroom at the school. It is a space they not only teach in, but now also live in.

Soyo - About 64 youths finished last Wednesday in Soyo Municipality, northern Zaire Province, the ninth course of the Teachers of the Future School (EPF) in Kintambi locality, sponsored by the NGO Humana People to People (ADPP), with the objective of increasing the number of this type of professionals in this region's education sector.

Scottish teachers are too scared of upsetting parents to teach human rights, worrying new research has found. Student teachers said they feared that "all hell would break loose" if they taught pupils about emotive human rights issues. Meanwhile, students who did want to cover human rights during their teaching practice were actively discouraged by qualified teachers who were concerned that it was "controversial".

The Education Cluster in Haiti - Two Years On January 2012 Introduction Throughout 2011, the Haiti Education Cluster led by UNICEF and Save the Children, established shortly after the January 2010 earthquake, continued to leverage resources  (technical, material and financial) to enhance cholera prevention and the recovery of the  education system from the impact of the earthquake, while supporting the Government of  Haiti to strengthen the capacity of the education system, including developing mechanisms  to prevent, prepare for and respond to future emergencies. 

Developed by INEE and the IASC Education Cluster, the EiE harmonized training package combines training materials from the original INEE Minimum Standards, IIEP and the Front Line Responders training packages. The materials include 13 modules with PPTs, Facilitator Guides and exercises as well as guidance on adapting the training materials.
