An excellent video on digital footprint from Cybersmart.

"In a digital world, the question is not whether you will leave a mark. The question is, "What kind of mark are you leaving?"" The content of MyFootprintSD is designed to make students cognizant of their digital footprint. In that way, it helps students be aware of what is safe and what is risky when using the web or other digital communication tools. In working through it, students will grow aware of how far these kinds of tools spread into their lives and how large the effects of their use can be (for better or for worse). The Growing Up Digital initiative will provide ongoing, accessible resources to Australian schools, cross-curricula lesson plans for grades (K-12), interactive modules for students, parent advice and resources and training for teachers.

In Dr. Gail Dines' compelling talk, she exposes the effects of porn culture on pop culture and the impact on children and young adults growing up in a pornified culture today, addressing how nonprofit organization Culture Reframed is "solving the public health crisis of the digital age".

Online safety must be relevant to youth, or we're talking to ourselves. It must accommodate the growing body of research on youth risk and what kids themselves say about how they use digital media, and it must be respectful-of both young people and the new media conditions they're ably exploiting.

"The Australian Government's Cybersafety Help Button provides internet users, particularly children and young people, with easy online access to cybersafety information and assistance available in Australia. It offers counselling, reporting and educational resources to assist young people deal with online risks including cyberbullying, unwanted contact, scams and fraud, and offensive or inappropriate material. The help button is a free application that is easily downloaded onto personal computers, mobile devices, and school and library networks."
