The 68 Most Controversial Things Ted Cruz's Dad Has Ever Said - 3 views

  •
Ted Cruz's father is his biggest inspiration. But if you look at what he's said, is this really someone you would look up to? It seems his father's loud opinions could shake his candidacy.
  •
I agree. Based on these actions Cruz as exemplified, I would question his candidacy as well.

Germanwings Flight to Düsseldorf From Barcelona Crashes in Southern France - 1 views

  •
PARIS - A German plane carrying 142 passengers and six crew members from Barcelona to Düsseldorf crashed Tuesday in southern France, the French civil aviation authority confirmed. The wreckage of the aircraft, an Airbus A320 operated by Germanwings, a budget subsidiary of Lufthansa, was located by a French military helicopter near the town of Prads-Haute-Bléone, according to Eric Héraud, a spokesman in Paris for the aviation authority, the Direction Générale de l'Aviation Civile.

That's crazy, and no one survived? Do they know what happened to the plane, aka technical failure, takeover, ect..

Jon Stewart Gets Weirded Out By Ted Cruz's Kiss Rehearsal - 4 views

  •
This is interesting because Ted Cruz just announced that he was running for president. Also we watch the Daily Show in class sometimes so it was funny to see Jon Stewart react to Cruz's speech at Liberty University? What do you think about Cruz claiming to respect privacy rights, and then having the students text a mysterious number with no explanation?
  •
I think that it is really weird that CRUZ******had random students send their info to a mysterious number, especially without giving an explanation and right after a speech supporting privacy. Seems like a strange scam that does not really make any sense. Kinda confusing...
  •
I thought this segment was funny. It is certainly a contradiction coming from Ted Cruz, to have students text a mysterious number like that. It is so odd that it almost seems untrue.

The Most Discouraging Sentence in Obama's Entire ISIS Speech - 0 views

  •
President Obama is set to deliver a speech on Wednesday evening laying out his strategy for countering the threat of the Islamic State in Iraq and Greater Syria (ISIS). Uses Yemen and Somalia as success stories of the strategy we will employ. Yikes.

For Travelers, How Smart is the Smartwatch? - 1 views

  •
The "SmartWatch" just announced by Apple IS very smart. Although you need an iPhone above generation 5 for it to work, it will benefit travelers in many ways. One being the fact that when you have asked it for directions, instead of you having to just look at your phone or device walking down the street, it sends little vibrations to the left or right wrist, guiding you where to go. It also tracks how long you stand and sit for. So that you do not look like a supernatural action movie character, Apple have made it easy for you to buy watch wrist straps and even buy a gold watch of your taste. The SmartWatch is very smart, and only time will prove whether it is a success or not.

In Hit Games, Tech Giants See More Than Fun - 0 views

  •
Parents like Minecraft because it can be a creative outlet for their children. Teachers like the game because it can bring lessons to life. And Microsoft likes the game so much that the tech giant wants to buy Minecraft's parent company for more than $2 billion. Well, plus its fun, some people have been capable of using it as a teaching tool.

10 trans actors that could have played jared letos role. - 7 views

  •
I think that we as a society have to start looking at why we aren't casting the people who are most qualified for roles (not to say jared letos performance wasn't good), and figure out why hollywood feels the need to perpetuate the impressions that trans women are men by continuing to cast men in those roles. Representation is important and this is an area in which hollywood is severely behind. what do you think?

I believe in any role, whether the character be straight/gay/lesbian/trans/etc, there are many possible options for actors/actresses. Obviously the blogger believes that the trans actors he provided would have been a more suitable option than Leto but the fact is that his performance just won him an Oscar, the most prestigious award he could've won for his performance. Also, a key part of acting is delving into the character. I believe that as long as an actor properly exercises the expectations of a director for that specific character, they have done their job.
  •
I completely agree with Max. Jared Leto's performance was about as convincing as they come, and his Oscar only supports this. Although I understand where the blog is coming from, I don't think actors should be cast based on how much they relate to a role, but rather how well they can play a role. Sean Penn playing Harvey Milk is another example of this. Rather then choosing an actual gay man, Penn was chosen and played the role impeccably, also winning an Oscar for his portrayal of a member of the LGBTQ community.
  •
Part of the problem though is clear even as you talk about Sean Penn - Cisgender people tend to conflate a transgender woman with a gay man. There is a huge difference between every identity on the LGBTQ spectrum, and how they should be treated is vastly different - something that only someone identifying as such could truly and deeply understand. The problem is also that they didn't cast Leto because he outacted every transgender woman, the problem is that they never considered a transgender woman in the first place, or thought about how this could hurt people. I guess the bottom line for me is that this hurts people - i don't really care about performance tbh

Woman Takes Short Half-Hour Break From Being Feminist To Enjoy TV Show - 6 views

could a funny article like this work for the tam news? do you believe the comedic article effectively made a point? did anyone get offended by this article, if so why?

I love this. I love that it shows a long standing issue in a clever and fresh way. I also now feel horrible about loving Say Yes To The Dress.
  •
While reading this article, I primarily had your question "could a funny article like this work for the tam news?" in the back of my mind. Perhaps to a lesser degree, an article like this could work. For example, a hard core photo-kid could for one period forget that they're a photo-kid and out try auto shop or something. I'm not sure if it would have the same effect (<correct?) but I think it would still make an interesting read.
  •
I really enjoyed this article. I agree that an article like this has some potential to be part of the Tam News, but may need to be toned down a bit. I think it could work though because you can take a topic that is important to someone (such as feminism) and make a light-hearted piece about it. It would definitely make for interesting read.
  •
I loved this article. It was unlike most other feminist articles in that it wasn't serious or angered (not that I don't enjoy reading angry feminist articles), but it was able to point out many examples of pop culture objectifying and insulting women. I think this article very effectively made it's point, not only in that the media is very disrespectful towards women, but also that for women and men fighting against these standards, it is very tiresome. I'm sure if we found a writer sarcastic and funny enough, and a topic worthy of being made fun of, that a successful article like this could be written for the Tam News. I don't see why it couldn't.

Are NYPD Protecting or Hurting? - 1 views

  •
Do you feel that stop-and-frisk is necessary? Is it hurting the public more than helping them? Why? If hurting, what would be a more effective method to achieve results?
  •
I think that stop-and-frisk is necessary but there is a border line or a certain extent that I believe is violating personal rights. I think that NYPD is building a worse reputation through these stops then they are gaining a better reputation through the occasional arrests. I think that stop-and-frisk should be conducted professionally if done so and not shouldn't include threats and physical engagement unless under defense. A better way of conducting these could be just checking in where they are going and why they are at this suspicious location instead of physically abusing them.
  •
I think that it is absolutely unnecessary and that it is harming citizens far more than it is helping them. If the NYPD wanted to really keep the streets safe and keep crime away, they would patrol and only act when needed. Instead they are targeting minorities and meeting quotas set by their supervisors. They make these arrests and harass innocent people in order to meet goals that shouldn't be there in the first place. They should take the policy away completely, and simply patrol the streets. They should also be required to always wear a recording device of some kind so that any abuse of their power is seen.

Will robot doctors be the new Norm? - 0 views

  •
Remote presence robots are allowing physicians to "beam" themselves into hospitals to diagnose patients and offer medical advice during emergencies, which seems very interesting and useful, but how will it affect the patient-doctor relationship? These Telepresence robots will seem much more distance and make the hospital experience very impersonal,in my opinion. And perhaps, once doctors notice the ease of this device for them ( since they could work from the comfort of their own home), less hours will be spent at the hospital, which would majorly change all patient's and just general hospital experience.

Go Ahead, Be That Mom - 1 views

  •
Do you think being an over-protective parent has mostly positive or negative affects on the child? When does protective become over-protective?
  •
You know, I don't think that this article was about being an overprotective mom or an argument for or against it. I read it more as, stop judging my parenting style and I'll stop judging yours (in a somewhat bitter way.) I think that protective becomes overprotective when all the child's independence is taking a way. My dad always says that his parenting is to teach me how to leave the nest successfully not stay.:P But do you think it's ever appropriate to judge someone else's parenting style?
