I think it's totally appropriate for schools to publish memorials, I think that in some way it's disrespectful to the families and friends to not post something in memory of the deceased. Even if illegal substances were involved, I think it's appropriate to post memorials, it can serve as some part of a lesson, an eye opener to other students that accidents can happen. If schools try to disregard death I think first of all it is extremely rude and disheartening to the family, and kids will not treat it as seriously. Whenever death occurs it is extremely sad, and it should be a prominent issue to stop these young deaths.

I agree with Holly, I think that clothes/style are things that are always changing, and that make people very unique. People have many different methods of expression, and I think for a lot of people fashion can define a big part of their personality. It would give students an opportunity to experiment with clothes and also be confident with their style. It could become something like the movie we watched with the guy from the New York Times, it can really become a passion for some people.

I think that this is a great idea. The fact that students just like us, in a very fortunate area, are giving back to not only the community they live in, but the whole country is very inspiring. I also think it was a very smart idea by the teacher, he let the students apply the knowledge they just learned into real world situations, and it was also great that they got to ask questions to people who are experiencing war right now. The students who went the extra mile and were very intrigued by the project were the ones who got the real reward of knowing that they helped people out who were in need, and supported the people who are fighting in protection of our country.

I think that publishing this article was a good choice, they didn't even need to have that many details, I think the main point was to let everyone know that this is happening and that there are repercussions. I think if a student TA was contemplating changing grades, after reading this article they would be more compelled not to. A lot of times I feel like the stories we publish although very interesting and informative don't cover some controversial topics such as this, so it was good that they decided to step outside of a comfort zone to cover the story. As I said I think it raises awareness in all students, not just Redwood but for anyone reading this article. I think that this does however put a negative impact on all TAs, now many teachers and students might have a negative bias towards them and teachers might lose respect even though they haven't done anything bad.

I agree that the add ons on the article enhanced the story, making you feel part of the experience. One of the add ons I really enjoyed but I know many other people had mixed feelings about was the sound bite of the 911 call. When we went over it in class we didn't really know the context, we just played it and waited to see what it would be. When I heard it I could feel the emotion of both the caller and the Ski Patrol, and without even reading the story I understood either where it was going and the devastation of the avalanche. Even without reading the story you could tell what was happening, and how many traumatizing experiences the avalanche caused. On a different note everything interactive or as an add on was easy to locate and fun to use. Even without reading any of the story and just clicking on these I felt that I knew what was happening, that I didn't necessarily have to read the story to feel like I was experiencing it. I think this would be a good tool to use because often times looking at a story, especially online, people don't read it, they just look at pictures or videos. Using this idea on the Tam News might compel more readers to look at the stories and be easier to understand.
