This year bay to breakers is getting more strict. What do you guys think of all the new rules?

Although I will be participating in Bay to Breakers and don't like all these strict rules, I can see why they are neccesary. Whenever an attack like the Boston Bombing occurs, we have to take all the precautions we can.

I think that these new measures are appropriate because it is definitely better to be overly cautious than under cautious. There is definitely a possibility that a person may see the attention the Boston bombers received due to their actions and replicate their actions in order to gain press coverage and attention. Increased security could definitely be taken too far, but enforcing preexisting rules seems completely appropriate.

I think the new rules will make the event very regulated and strict. although in past years the rules have never been enforced and everyone is able to enjoy themselves, though this year I feel will be different and the vibe wont be as joyous as it has been in the past.

I have talked to friends who think it's stupid that the rules are a lot more strict this year and people have been talking about how they are so disappointed that it's going to be hard to be able to get drunk and stuff like that. I think these are pretty stupid things to be disappointed about and I think it's completely necessary that these precautions are taken. It's not worth having another tragedy so that teenagers can go get drunk and do stupid things. Regardless of the strictness of the event, it can still be just as fun as it ever was and people shouldn't worry about anything dangerous happening.

I think that tightening security is a good thing. Although I understand that it might be frustrating to Tam students and other people who want to attend the race but not participate, in the end it will be better for everyone because of the risk of another bombing. They will most likely apply more security to other events like this for public safety.

I think the restrictions for Bay to Breakers is justified. Making these new rules can only help, not hurt us, and the reasoning behind the rules makes sense. People usually bomb or kill people to be remembered to get attention, and clearly these people garnered much attention after the Boston bombing. So, it is completely fair that people might be apprehensive about something like this happening at Bay to Breakers. I think it's ridiculous that people might not go because they're afraid they won't be able to get away with drinking. However, being afraid of attending because of the Boston bombing does make sense.

The stricter regulations did have good intentions, and were bound to be brought to the table after what happened in Boston, although it may have been more annoying for students. However, I've heard from numerous people that these rules that were supposed to be enforced weren't actually enforced at all. Students have said that they were easily able to jump into the race at any point without paying, even when they were carrying backpacks. This is somewhat worrying, luckily nobody who participated had evil intentions, but if someone did, it sounds like anything could have easily taken a turn for the worst.

I agree with all that has been said above. After a big incident like the Boston Bombings I think it makes sense and should be expected that new rules such as small backpacks and no unregistered participants at the race. However, after going this year it didn't seem like the security was very strict at all. I saw people with large backpacks and I know that there were a lot of people that went that were not registered and they didn't get kicked off. I was kind of expecting it to be a lot different than in past years but it wasn't really at all. I think part of the thing is that there are so many people that its hard to survey and control everyone and impose the new restrictions. It's kind of a bummer that the "new rules" that ended up not even being enforced kept some people from going to b2b this year.
