How to make IT procurement environmentally friendly - 0 views

  • A company's end-of-life processes are crucial when it comes to reducing the amount of kit that gets sent to landfill or illegally exported, but it is at the procurement stage where IT managers can flex their consumer muscle and help to bring about changes in the way IT is manufactured.

  • @Remote Green Reports allow businesses to monitor, assess and report imaging fleet performance and employee printing trends in support of internal sustainability and/or cost reduction goals.
  •
With @Remote Green Reports, users can track month-to-month trends in energy and paper consumption of their Managed Ricoh @Remote Compatible document output devices, allowing them to monitor fleet performance and the possible environmental impact device usage operations have on such areas as CO2 emissions* or conservation of forests**. This tool collects data from Ricoh networked multifunctional products (MFPs) and securely transmits the information to a Ricoh data center. Greening the Manufacturing Supply Chain, Part 2 - 0 views

  •
"Back to supply chains (although if you are a builder of commercial space then Interface is probably in your supply chain). A recent Environmental Leader article discussed a survey of the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) regarding their attitudes towards suppliers (supply chain) that do not manage their carbon. These are real companies in the survey (like PepsiCo, Dell, Google, IBM, Kellogg, HP and Unilever.) The results are enlightening. Over 1000 suppliers to these companies were surveyed. Survey reported that 38% of the supply chain respondents have some type of carbon reduction targets in place. Of these respondents, almost two thirds report Scope 1 and Scope 2 emission. Scope 3 emissions are reported by 8%. Strikingly, 56% of the CDP members (remember the big companies listed above?) say that they may eliminate suppliers who don't manage carbon."

Carbon Footprinting Your Supply Chain for Bigger Profits - 0 views

  • In part one of this article, (here) I laid out the business case for carbon foot-printing your supply network. Part two identifies practical steps of where to begin, followed by suggestions to ensure lasting success.
  • Start by recognizing and measuring the environmental areas (such as GHG / carbon emissions, energy use, waste and water consumption, and use of other natural resources) to get a baseline. This can be done internally or by working with a third party partner or specialized sustainability consulting firm on an environmental and/or carbon footprint assessment. I have seen many organizations set up internal "Green Teams" or eco-working groups to begin looking at measuring their company's carbon footprint. The most important part of this process is engaging both your employees as well as your suppliers. Carbon management is a team effort. It takes collaboration, transparent communication, and a willingness to see the greater benefits for everyone involved.

Greenpeace puts HP in top spot in greener-electronics guide - 1 views

  •
Greenpeace released its latest rankings today, showing HP moving ahead three to the top spot. It's a big leap considering that just six years ago HP was targeted by Greenpeace as one of the worst tech companies for using fire retardant materials suspected of being hazardous. At the time, Greenpeace members stood outside of HP's headquarters and handed out fliers that said "HP: Harmful Products."

Supply Chain Leaders Balance Efficiency and Resilience : IMT Industry Market Trends - 0 views

  • balance between efficiency and resilience is the key trade-off faced by supply chain managers, according to a recent research paper from the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU), the business-to-business arm of analyst firm The Economist Group. Based on interviews with supply chain executives from Whirlpool Corp., Coca-Cola Co., Home Depot, Inc. and other companies, the paper highlights supply chain problems in the aftermath of the extraordinary swings in demand over the past two years.
  • According to a major IBM survey this summer, more than half of global business leaders believe their enterprises are not adequately prepared to handle a highly volatile, increasingly complex business environment. Based on a survey of 1,500 chief executives from 60 countries and 33 industries worldwide, IBM found that while eight in 10 CEOs expect the global business environment to grow significantly more complex, only 49 percent believe their organizations are equipped to deal with it successfully — the largest leadership challenge identified in IBM's eight years of research.
  • "[N]ow is the time for companies to reassess supply chain processes to ensure that progress towards efficiency does not boost the potential for failure in the face of economic, operational or environmental disruptions," EIU concludes.
