Much research clearly seems to proves the advice in this article and Sheryl Sandberg's family-oriented practise is wise. I suggest you stop if you also are requiring your staff to do it too! As a "recovering Type 'A' workaholic", I speak from experience because I couldn't work, at all, for over 5 years after the dis-stress on my body, mind, emotions, will, and spirit caused a life-threatening event in my life in 1995. gfp (2012-05-03)

"There's a century of research establishing the undeniable fact that working more than 40 hours per week actually decreases productivity. This research clearly seems to proves the advice in this article and Sheryl Sandberg's family-oriented practise is wise. I suggest you stop if you also are requiring your staff to do it too! As a "recovering Type 'A' workaholic", I speak from experience because I couldn't work, at all, for over 5 years after the dis-stress on my body, mind, emotions, will, and spirit caused a life-threatening event in my life in 1995. gfp (2012-04-26)

You can defeat the myth of work-life balance by striving for "harmony" not mythical "balance" is what I've been teaching in my Stress Optimization program for over a decade! Because this so-called "new idea" is not accepted in the mainstream, you'll discover below a disclaimer saying that work-life balance as a myth "expresses the writer's view alone." Duh!
  • Doing what that guy in the photo was doing is impossible for more than a few minutes at a time.

Working from home is the ideal way to overcome the MANY disadvantages in today's cruel marketplace of having a job-job! But, the emphasis needs to be on "working from home" ...not being a baby-sitter for your kids!
  • don’t say if no if you don’t have any leverage
    • Gary Patton

I don't agree! If no needs to be said for you to be "on purpose": Say no ...regardless of your amount of leverage! Not learning how to say "no" wisely is one of the most dis-stress life-skill lacks from which many people suffer! But, ask some questions first around your options and choices when asked to do something so you not they retain control.

  • In practice, however, what I’ve seen is that people often invest that free time in doing more work.

This is another problem caused often by excessive "Type 'A' Behaviour" or "Work Addiction" (workaholism). It does not detract from the wisdom of hiring others to free up time for you for re-creation and relaxation.
  • Their identity is rooted in work, and that’s where they want to be. Outside of work, in the complex dance of family and community responsibilities, they lose their autonomy. Their professional expertise doesn’t mean much.

This is not a "faulty-assumption" about the work-life myth because these kinds of so-called leaders are sick and need help ...as a psycologist or psyciatrist would agree.
  • We need better ways to manage work-life boundaries, understanding that we are subject to phases, often dictated by events out of our control, in which our work lives and personal lives ebb and flow in their demands.

This is why I coach my clients that the key is to seek harmony, not perfection, in the context of a clear and written "life purpose" which promotes direction, focus and the context for "saying no"!

Don't be social. Be relevant in all your key relationships! Your family and friends are what life is all about. And major de-stressors for you when you practise harmony in this area as well.
  • f you feel overworked to the point that you complain about it constantly
    • Gary Patton

This again results from the lack of a clear purpose and harmony in fulfilling it. Alternatievly, it may be greed which also is the lack of a reasonable life purpose because there's a lot more to life than more money! How many do you think on their death bed will share: "Gee, I wish I'd spent more time at the office!" Duh!!
  • Say “no” strategically
    • Gary Patton

As I said above, it's impossible to say know wisely if you're unclear about your life purpose!
  • Quit complaining
  • Take control instead

What Is Child Psychology and Why Is It So Important? - 0 views

  •
The article offers us a comprehensive perspective on child psychology, highlighting its importance in the healthy development of our children. I find it especially valuable how it emphasizes that early intervention is key. As parents, we sometimes minimize certain signs thinking that 'it will pass,' but detecting and addressing problems early can make a significant difference in the child's future well-being. It's reassuring to know that there are evidence-based therapeutic tools adapted to the children's world, such as play therapy and art therapy, which allow children to receive help in a natural and engaging way. I also highlight the comprehensive approach that includes family and educational environment, recognizing that children's well-being is connected to the family and social dynamics surrounding the child. A recommended read for parents, educators, and anyone interested in child welfare.
