Matchi.biz - EasyEquities talks fintech challenge events - 1 views

  • The future is really exciting for us and links into why we participate in these fintech festivals. We think what we’ve proven in South Africa is scalable to other markets, especially those with similar setup to South Africa five years ago. Our focus is largely on emerging markets and seeking to partner our capability into a market opportunity, where the partner brings local knowledge and regulatory understanding and we bring platform capability. There needs to be a level of maturity and fintech support that enables our business model. There must be a very strong payments layer and smartphone penetration rates must be good. If those are in place and there’s a low propensity for retail stock investors to be investing in the local stock market, we start to be interested.

The Great FinTech Robo Advisor Race - 0 views

  • By now, the robo advisors are familiar to almost all fintech watchers.  These are the startups which have garnered media attention and customers given digital native investment accounts.  Their services include automated portfolio planning, automatic asset allocation, online risk assessments, account re balancing and other digital tools. Fees are competitive and range between 15 to 35 basis points of AUM.  Well known players include Betterment, Wealthfront, Motif and Folio, among others.
    • kenzabenessalah

The reason why I think Robo advisors would be a great additional strategy to EasyEquities is because they are familiar with the procedures of startups. They would help enhance the quality, secure, and efficiency of the company.

Fintech Tips: A five-step guide to robo advisors - AltFi - 0 views

  • Simplicity is a key feature of this type of investing. All investors need to do is create a username and password and typically answer between 10 to 15 basic financial questions to open an account. The service then plugs your answers into an algorithm that determines the portfolio and asset allocation that is appropriate for your age, risk tolerance and how long you wish to invest. Rob advisors typically follow passive investments such as tracker funds and exchange traded funds (ETF) based on modern portfolio theory research.
    • kenzabenessalah

Robo advisors help with creating a portfolio for each customer with their financial and personal data. This is a must-have service to lower privacy risks and to have secure data on what the customers wants to invest in. EasyEquities would be more secure if it incorporated this startegy.

Frontiers | How Risk Profiles of Investors Affect Robo-Advised Portfolios | Artificial ... - 1 views

  • Automated financial advising (robo-advising) has become an established practice in wealth management, yet very few studies have looked at the cross-section of the robo-advisors and the factors explaining the persistent variability in their portfolio allocation recommendations. Using a sample of 53 advising platforms from the US and Germany, we show that the underlying algorithms manage to identify different risk profiles, although substantial variability is evident even within the same investor types' groups. The robo-advisor expertise in a particular asset class seems to play a significant role, as does the geographical location, while the breadth of the offered investment choice (number of portfolios) across the robo-advisors under study does not seem to have an effect.
    • kenzabenessalah

Robo-Advisors go way beyond portfolio allocation; they help keep in the company in tact. Investment companies, like EasyEquities, need such expertise to manage all the financial transactions.
  • Given the different attitudes of investors toward digitalization, robo-advising can be segmented into two main sectors. The first one is pure robo-advising, which is completely free from human intervention in the advisory process. This results in considerably lower fees compared to traditional advisory services, attracting lower-income clientele. As reported by Ringe and Ruof (2018), pure RAs charged fees ranging between 0.4% (US market) and 0.8% (European markets), compared to human financial advising costing circa 1–2%. Pure RAs have become quite popular due to their propensity to avoid conflict of interests due to automation. Fisch et al. (2017) highlight that RAs are less exposed to conflict of interests due to their higher independence, smaller bias to recommend actively managed funds that generate commissions as a potential additional expense, more transparent cost structures, lower minimum investment requirements, and 24/7 availability.
    • nouhaila_zaki

This excerpt explains how robo-advising works as well as its positive sides. The most interesting one in my opinion would have to be the avoidance of conflict of interests due to automation which could prove to be very useful in a continent (Africa) that is infested with corruption and nepotism.

Fintech Trends: Crowdfunding | finleap - 1 views

  • The most obvious benefit of crowdfunding for entrepreneurs is the funding. With so many startups on the market, it is hard to gather the money needed to bring ideas to life. Through crowdfunding, ventures that do not have a company builder like FinLeap behind them, can gain support at the very beginning. Crowdfunding provides a way for innovate ideas to be presented attractively, so it can be launched. Moreover, a crowdfunding platform can help successful entrepreneurs to validate their product which can then help with gathering the Series A funding. It makes validation faster and more scalable. Additionally, a crowdfunding platform allows entrepreneurs to get insights from their future customers and experts in the startup field while building awareness for the idea. [3]
    • kenzabenessalah

Crowdfunding would help EasyEquities come up with new innovative ideas for entrepreneurs and future customers. With this strategy, the company will always be classified high in the "Trend" sectors of the FinTech industry.
  • One thing to remember, however, is that the entrepreneur does not choose his investors which leads to unclear boundaries in the process. In addition, depending on the platform, entrepreneurs have to pay out between 8% and 12% of their raise which has to be budgeted in. [5] Moreover, crowdfunding platforms usually require through reporting and disclosure procedures that are strictly followed, making every step of the entrepreneur difficult. Due diligence is also absent as investors can contribute very small amounts, so are not particularly concerned with it. [6]Finally, the low percentage of success in crowdfunding is the main disadvantage
    • nouhaila_zaki

Though crowdfunding appears to be a great opportunity, this excerpt introduces us also to the drawbacks of this fintech strategy in order for us to make an informed decision when formulating a strategy. Problems of failure, due diligence, disclosure of confidential information to investors and the need for entrepreneurs to pay a certain percentage of their raise, and the need to carefully budget the amount needed since it cannot be changed later, are really discouraging many fintech companies from considering crowdfunding as an option.
  • the practice of funding a project or venture by raising many small amounts of money from a large number of people, typically via the Internet”. Thus, crowdfunding has become the champion of small businesses, allowing them to have a chance to succeed by showing their innovate business models to the world
    • kenza_abdelhaq

Crowdfunding is a great alternative to have access to financing even though the success rates of these campaigns may be low, but the prompt describing the project should be promising and innovative.

This digital platform allow to automate the procedure with least or can be said no human supervision. • kenzabenessalah

Since EasyEquities is all about investing, it needs to be very secure. Robo-advisors offer a digital platform where all the data is stored . They are a must have because a single, minor mistake from a human being could put the company at great risk.
  • Investing is a boon for an organization or an individual, but hardly people have any idea about investment. So, when they plan to invest their money for a better ROI, the very first solution hit their mind is wealth advisory team. But it makes their work more tedious by adding an interaction with a team and spending team for it. Robo-Advisor has brought a revolution in the finance sector with a new approach of automation. It is a digital assistant that work on various algorithms to manage financial portfolio of clients. It gives an enhanced and secure experience. This is possible with the help of machine learning and artificial intelligence. These tools are no longer confined till chat-bots; rather it has grown in the field of fintech too with a number of finance management aspects, such as automating loan process, data management, wealth management, voice assistance, customized finance advisory, and many more.
    • nouhaila_zaki

This excerpt confirms the need for Robo-advising in fintech start-ups. Robo-advising appears to be a revolution in the financial sector which replaces the regular wealth advisory team that traditional investors are accustomed to. The Rise of the Robo-advisor: How Fintech Is Disrupting Retirement - Knowledge@Wharton - 2 views

  • Robos came on the scene about a decade ago, and two early startups were Wealthfront and Betterment. Today, there are dozens of robos in the market, Fisch said. There are pure robo services, as well as those that offer the option of talking to a human advisor, with or without an extra fee. Since they’re automated, robos can more easily avoid conflicts of interest that could beset a human advisor, who might push investments that pay the highest commissions.
    • kenzabenessalah

Having Robo-advisors in EasyEquities would prevent the risk of having conflicts with "human" advisors. Digital assistance is the key.
  • Robo fees can range from zero — if the investor has less than $10,000 to invest — to as high as 0.89% of assets under $1 million in some cases, said Brett Hammond, research leader of Capital Group. But 0.25% to 0.30% of assets is more typical, he added. (The fee is on top of the cost of the investment itself.) As for performance, it’s a mixed bag with some robos doing better than others, Hammond said. The big question is how they will do in the long run, especially during a big market crash, since they don’t have an extended track record yet. “We don’t know in a complete cycle what these [robos] are going to deliver,” he said. “The real issue is, does it improve outcomes?”
    • nouhaila_zaki

This excerpt is important because, on the one hand, it introduces us to the fees that can be charged by Robo-advisors. On the other, performance is hard to measure for robo-advisors since nobody knows how the will behave in the long run and in severe circumstances i.e. a market crash.
  • Artificial intelligence is changing the world of retirement planning. By using improved datasets and algorithms to efficiently deliver solutions tailored to people’s needs, AI can help them save, invest and retire better. These are software programs that use the data supplied by clients to create and automatically manage their investment portfolios

When fintech met crowdfunding - AltFi - 0 views

  • It became clear that fintech companies began to prize crowdfunding three years ago. Monzo crashed our servers in 2016 when it raised £1m in 96 seconds. Last December, the now-serial crowdfunding neobank raised £20m from retail investors.
    • kenzabenessalah

Crowdfunding would be a beneficial strategy for EasyEquities to help young entrepreneurs raise money for their new investments.
  • The world’s leading fintechs are using crowdfunding to cement and enhance their relationship with their customers. The latest Unicorns report from Beauhurst, an independent analysis firm, identifies the UK’s 21 unicorn companies – those worth $1bn (around £760m) or more. Of the 21, six are fintechs, and two are digital banks: Monzo and Revolut. Both have turned to crowdfunding – at a time when they are the darlings of the tech scene and its investors – to raise capital.
    • hichamachir

Crowdfunding is becoming a very used strategy for fintechs because it's a concept that help entrepreneurs finance their projects. Also it's a concept that makes the community more connected
  • The staggering thing about Monzo’s raise – and it speaks volumes about where crowdfunding and fintech have reached – is that it did not need to raise the £20m from any of us on the street. In October – i.e. just two months shy of the raise – the bank had closed an £85m round led by VC firm Accel. Raising £20m is no walk in the park. You need to build a prospectus, which is a lengthy and expensive process. Monzo’s crowdfunding raise capped all investments at £2,000, meaning the team chose to have more investors to look after.
    • nouhaila_zaki

This excerpt uses the example of Monzo's fundraising through crowdfunding to show that the latter could be a great source of financing for fintech companies.

  • Making consumers owners and giving them a say has become integral to how these companies run. Indeed, many are now building their own platforms to manage ownership. What does this tell us about the future? Here are businesses offering equity – not for money, not because they want to list, but to build an affinity with their customers. As these relationships evolve, both sides benefit: greater engagement – better products – more customers – growth – profit – both sides capitalise.  It could be called the democracy of building business. Technology is making this shift around the consumer possible not just in finance, but across markets. While the former has emerged as the vanguard, there are other non-tech sectors that have leapfrogged traditional ownership structures and cemented their own success. Food and beverage, historically underserved by the financial world, was an early adopter of crowdfunding. BrewDog is the poster child for this – a four-time Crowdcube funded brewery. It has 120,000 investors, aka Equity Punks, who, in its words, kick-started the craft beer revolution and, presumably, enjoy its beer. The prospect gets so much more exciting when you start to think of the markets that are hardest to disrupt, build a community around, and fight injustices: insurance, mining, the coffee industry, healthcare.
    • nouhaila_zaki

Here the positive side of crowdfunding is presented and includes the ownership of customers over the businesses/brands they fo to. Crowdfunding here appears to be a great opportunity, which the article describes as the democracy of building business.

what we can say is crowdfunding is the future for fintech. using Crowdfunding will helps the fintech to have a stronger and powerful relationship with its customers.
  • To answer that, I believe we have to go back to the financial crisis. After 2008, a chasm opened up in financial markets, encouraged by a profound lack of trust. We’re well-versed with the outcomes. The banks that survived had to change their ways, and new players came onto the scene. A decade later, it is the novel relationship between these latest entrants and consumers that gives us an idea of what the future looks like: a world where any business-to-consumer company knows that sharing ownership with its customers is fundamental to long-term success. This is the cooperative movement of the twenty-first century, and it is driven by technology.
    • sawsanenn

This could imply that future companies are effective for a variety of reasons. Rather than capitalizing on cost savings, piling up high-quality products and selling them cheaply, or structural brands that are more myth-based than substance-based, they will be firms that effectively utilize network effects, concentrate on being a product first, and bake their clients into everyones brand

Robo-Advisors - Business Models and Strategies | ccecosystems.news - 0 views

  • As mentioned in the last article, it is not possible to define exactly what a robo-advisor is, as the individual providers offer a range of services of varying breadth. In fact, robo-advisors have long since ceased to offer mere recommendations or advice, and most providers are steadily expanding their services into a fully integrated solution. Accordingly, people now associate a robo-advisor with a platform that can also be used to make an investment directly (see [Bloch/Vins 2017, 114]). However, this service, for example, is linked to certain regulatory requirements, which are presented below. It should be noted here that this is the regulatory framework in Germany. In terms of regulation, four business models can be distinguished in the area of robo advisory services:
    • kenzabenessalah

Since EasyEquities is about investment, having roboadvisors that provide financial advice would create more value to the company and would target more segments.
  • investment brokerage (german: Anlagenvermittlung),investment advice (Anlagenberatung),acquisition brokerage (Abschlussvermittlung), as well asfinancial portfolio management (Finanzportfolioverwaltung), also known as asset management.
    • nouhaila_zaki

This excerpt summarizes the business models that can be distinguished in the area of Robo-advisory services. The main difference between these business models lies in who is responsible for making the investment decision.
  • Robo-advisors can follow an active or passive investment approach not only in terms of their product range, but also in the composition of the individual products. In active management, for example, the market is constantly monitored and, on the basis of this, the securities that appear to be most advantageous at a given time are included in the portfolio. This targeted approach is described as so-called “stock picking” (see [Müller/Pester 2019, 229f]). Due to market fluctuations, there are thus regular purchases and sales of securities with the aim of achieving a higher return than the passive market. In the course of this, the percentage distribution of the asset classes in the portfolio can also be continuously adjusted and regular risk assessments carried out. As a result, the portfolio may be subject to constant change. The passive management approach is based on the strategy of maintaining the portfolio created at the beginning, including the asset allocation and the defined securities, unchanged and independent of market fluctuations. If a change in asset allocation should occur due to market fluctuations, the original state can be restored through various adjustment methods, also called “rebalancing”. In contrast to active management, this adjustment is not carried out on an ongoing basis, but at predetermined times or according to specific rules. In so-called “periodic rebalancing”, a restoration of the asset allocation is carried out as needed at the time of a previously defined temporal interval change. Another variant of rebalancing provides for an adjustment only if the portfolio value exceeds or falls below a previously defined mark, the threshold
    • nouhaila_zaki

This excerpt distinguishes between Robo-advisors' active investment approach and passive investment approach, based on their product range but also on the composition of the individual products. Understanding the difference between the two approaches would allow us to better formulate strategies that incorporate Robo-advisory in them.

  • Online asset management has been experiencing a rapid rise in Germany for several years. Since 2017, the number of users has grown by a factor of 7 from around 291,000 in 2017 to around 2.01 million in 2020 (cf. o.V. 2020), while the investment volume has increased more than tenfold from around 756 million euros to 8.068 billion euros (cf. o.V. 2020). Two factors in particular are key to this trend
    • kenza_abdelhaq

robo-advising or online asset management has been growing rapidly during the past years due to loss of trust in personal banking advisors amid the 2007 financial crisis and the new generation that prefers digital interactions.
