July 25, 2013 By: David Kapuler A "Flipped Classroom" is a classroom that uses class time to do activities/lessons (guided by the teacher) and "homework" time for guided instruction, usually through video. Basically, it turns a classroom upside down: the learning of a topic is done at home and then the applied practice or work is done at school.

Bloom's Taxonomy is talked about a lot in educational circles. However, if you believe a recent survey of visits to 23,000 U.S. classrooms, the higher-order thinking skills it's ideally designed to promote doesn't get much use. And I can understand why.

Bringing technology into the classroom almost always comes with a learning curve. Some teachers joke that their students picked up tech skills more easily than they did, and others still just don't get the training they need to effectively use the technology tools that they are given for their classrooms. BYOD classrooms can address a number of issues. It can solve the problem of not having enough (or any) devices for your classroom. It can enable students to do web-based work when they might not have otherwise been able to. It can allow them to do work on the same device at home and at school.
