Judy Rodman - All Things Vocal: Why Studio Singing Is Hard For Guitar Players - 0 views

  •
Imaginary Studio Performance How do you protect your voice when your studio session is set up to only record voice for the day? Judy Rodman suggests "pretending" that your instrument is still there. Johnny Cash's studio tech used to take the strings out of his guitar and give it to him to hold while singing because the producer noticed that he sang better when attached to his guitar. It all goes back to muscle memory.

9GiantSteps · Coin a Phrase: The Leveling - 0 views

  •
The Leveling - Moore's law of Music The leveling is a theory that has been going on since the beginning of mankind. Eventually, as technology becomes cheaper to produce we all are gaining access to the same tools, the barriers that use-to provide advantages to those with the most resources is nearing an end. In the music/creative world, the first moment of leveling occured with the adent of ProTools (Digital Studios), then TuneCore (Digital Distribution) and Social Media (Digital Promotion). Now since everyone has the same ingredients how will your recipe stand out.

Mastering Music - Explained « Music Producers Forum - 1 views

  •
Mastering proffesional Adrian Carr of ACMastering recently posted a good article explaining mastering in fairly simple terms for those who are still convinced that "mixing and mastering" is one word. One thing that really helped me to understand mastering back when it was a big question-mark to me, was the differences in the files types each technique used. When mastering a song your are working off of the final exported two-track (that Wav or Aiff file all your hard work went into), whil with mixing you are working with each individual track that you laid individually during your recording, at this point your song is probably still sitting on some virtual sequencer like cubase, garage band or protools. I dunno, it helped me understand it a little more.

Web Music Video Distribution for Independent Artists - 4 views

  •
Fact #1 - Youtube is the 2nd largest search engine next to Google. Fact #2 - Many people search for music on Youtube and other online video websites. Now that you know these two facts. The renegade producer suggests there is no better reason for you to develop a business strategy which includes online music video distribution. Now what type of videos are we talking about here, not everyone has the money to shoot a MTV style music video let alone a couple. Well the renegadeproducer suggests uploading not just clips of your band but clips of your brand. You can create clips from the audio, backstage, with members of your tribe at shows or even while having breakfast. Having content that can visually engage your fans while your not on the stage can help strengthen the overall brand. Time is obviously a factor, so for this you should check out TubeMogul that group distributes your videos to many video sharing sites at once, but first you gotta create the content.

How Am I Doing? « eleetmusic - Direction in music, marketing and business - 0 views

Okay, so your an independent artist, more power to ya. You write, produce, record and distribute your own tracks, but how well is your music being received. Major record labels have numerous methods to track the performance and popularity of their music. Soundscan, and Billboard are some of those ways. But once the music reaches the consumer thats when the metrics come to a screeching halt. Luckily now as an indie musician you have many ways to track your music, some ways actually rival those of the record labels. You can now monitor your brand, and even statistics such as how much time my audience spends listening to my material, and what songs are shared the most in their network.

Music in the 2010's, not Doom but Groove « Music Producers Forum - 0 views

  •
Music will thrive in 2010 Jomar, blogger for the musicproducersforum recently wrote a rebuttal to CNETS recent article entitled will recorded music survive in 2010. Kudos to Jomar for getting it right. To sell music this year labels will have to see music as more than just a way get money from the customer. With the record labels struggling for a solution i've never seen so many artists recording music, its as if getting signed is an annoyance for the artists of the future. The leveling is almost here, with every artist gaining access to the same tools, theres never been more of a reason to record music. The less expensive it is for an artist to record music the less money an artist has to make to see a profit.

A new study has found that the the fall of an item's popularity mirrors its rise to popularity, so items that become popular faster also die out faster. Kyle Bylin, Accosciate Editor for hypebot.com has taken that study one step further by relating the new find to the marketing strategy of record labels. It could be said that the Record Labels are killing itself to live, what a weird paradox.
