"Clara H. Isaacman Memorial Trunk Project" The PHEC has developed two (2) trunks of Holocaust materials: one is appropriate for middle school and the other for high school. Each contains maps, reference materials, a classroom set of books, DVDs, nonfiction (memoirs and diaries) and fiction books. The trunk will become the property of the school and should be located in a centralized area such as the library or media center. Each piece will be catalogued by the library for its main collection with the site specified as the trunk, and the librarian will create a special list of trunk contents so materials can be checked in and out properly. One teacher or administrator should be named who will serve as the liaison between the school and the PHEC and oversee maintenance and usage of the trunk.

"Historia is living inside the history you are learning." -Julia E. Age 12 HISTORIA was created by Rick Brennan and Jason Darnell, social studies teachers who wanted to get their 6th graders excited about history by creating a learning experience that was student driven, challenging and fun. Rick and Jason taught with HISTORIA in their classrooms for over six years, refining the design of the game each year. Other local teachers began to seek their assistance to implement HISTORIA in their own classes. When the project achieved national exposure by being featured by the Atlantic, Fast Company and the Institute of Play, Rick and Jason decided the time was right to seek a publisher to help develop a technology-based version of the product. Now together with their publishing partners, E-Line Media and Upper One Games, Rick and Jason hope to challenge students all over the country and the world to learn history by leading it. HISTORIA will be available for interactive whiteboard, tablets and Mac/PC in 2014. Here's how HISTORIA works: The goal of HISTORIA is to grow a civilization and keep it strong over time. Students work in teams to lead fictional civilizations that compete along side (and sometimes against) the great empires of the past. Highly competitive and compelling rigorous, HISTORIA is for teachers who want to give their students a deeply meaningful and engaging learning experience that they will remember forever. In each unit, or Epoch, students face a Dilemma about which their decisions will impact the future of their people. Students research history - using their textbook, trusted online sites and other resources - to understand how their decisions will impact the economic, military and cultural strength of their civilization. Students are also challenged to assess the potential impact of key Events in each Epoch that might occur and affect the progress of their civilization. There are as many ways to have fun with American History as there are ways to learn it. History and how we view it is ever-changing. Any form of recorded history reflects the time it was written or filmed as much as it does the time period it attempts to capture. But that's OK, because we get more bang for our history buck - we can learn about both time periods. So if you play the video Far Speaking, you see a goofy, yet informative presentation on the life of the telephone & long distance from a 1935 perspective. All videos are free to watch. Selections range from the 1895 Edison experimental talking movie to educational films from the 1950s. Other entries include classic, history-themed television dramas, modern well-made documentaries and even hollywood movies like Meet John Doe from director Frank Capra. The latter is an example of a film which is not based on a historical subject, but rather is history itself. It reflects, in a very tangible way, the era of the Great Depression. "Universities house an enormous amount of information and their libraries are often the center of it all. You don't have to be affiliated with any university to take advantage of some of what they have to offer. From digital archives, to religious studies, to national libraries, these university libraries from around the world have plenty of information for you. There are many resources for designers as well. Although this is mainly a blog that caters to designers and artists I have decided to include many other libraries for all to enjoy."

The Lincoln Archives Digital Project started in 2002 with a simple idea for a vast undertaking: to digitize all federal records that exist from the administration of Abraham Lincoln. Over 6,000 documents are currently online and over half a million documents are scanned and in the process of being placed online. People from around the world now have access to the documents of Abraham Lincoln's administration, including Civil War records.

"The basic idea is that teachers and librarians can upload and share all of their lessons by re-creating them (cutting and pasting sometimes) online and then sharing them with the public. It's a bit more time consuming than just uploading your lessons, but that allows all of the lessons to be searchable and organized. I've been using it for awhile now, and while there aren't many library lessons out there now, there are more added every day. Each August since 1998, Beloit College has released the Beloit College Mindset List, providing a look at the cultural touchstones that shape the lives of students entering college this fall. The creation of Beloit's former Public Affairs Director Ron Nief and Keefer Professor of the Humanities Tom McBride, it was originally created as a reminder to faculty to be aware of dated references, and quickly became a catalog of the rapidly changing worldview of each new generation.
