"The familiar narrative of teens and technology is one of natural proficiency - that young people just get technology in a way that older generations don't. But research suggests that just because children feel at home using smartphones, it doesn't mean they're more aware of the nuances of how the web works. In a new report published by the UK's telecoms watchdog Ofcom, researchers found that only a third of young people aged 12 to 15 knew which search results on Google were adverts, while this figure was even lower - less than one in five - for children aged 8 to 11"

"Those who do not learn how to utilize social media strategically run a great risk of encountering obstacles when seeking employment or admission. Research has been clear that social media can serve important professional purposes, such as personal branding, self-promotion ad impression management (Chen, 2013; Jackson & Lilleker, 2011; Labrecque et al., 2011; Zhao et al., 2013), and we encourage its intentional positive use. We suggest that all youth (and young adults!) work extra hard to do great things at school and in their community (e.g., making the honor roll, volunteering, extra-curricular activities, etc.) so that when one does search for them, they find evidence of hard work, integrity, and civic-mindedness."

Any citation must be created by the user. "The LOC concentrates on its most rare collections and those unavailable anywhere else. New research shows that a part of the brain called the hippocampus stores memories by their "temporal context."" We need to remember not just what happened, but when.

Having the skill to develop good inquiry questions is important to self-learning and critical thinking. The audio is not great but a useful example nonetheless.

"Are you interested in learning more about your patrons' usage of and satisfaction with your library, and their demographics? Here are 3 sample survey templates of different lengths to be used "as is" or adapted to your organization's specific research needs. The short survey template focuses on customer satisfaction, the medium and long survey templates add questions about library usage, and the long survey template also includes a demographics section. Before using the templates, it is important to read them carefully to ensure that all of the questions pertain to your library and to your information needs. Each template is formatted as a Microsoft Word document in order that you may delete, add, or modify questions as necessary. Each of these survey templates is intended to be very general to offer the richest opportunity for follow-up. For example, if you learned from the surveys that your patrons were less than satisfied with your library's facilities, you might then create a follow-up survey or plan interviews or focus groups to explore that issue at greater length."

This is a great visual to back up my teaching. We had a session last week where I was explaining this information to a year 8 science class as they embarked on a major research project. You know some" get it" but others are still struggle with evaluating a source even if the agree as to the why. This is clean and concise.
