The Social Learning Academy is intended for learning professionals  - in Workplace Learning and Education - who are new to social media and would like to find out more about the different social technologies and their application to learning.

in many ways we can actually SAVE time and money by conducting the majority of our professional development interests online.

Interesting Ways to Use series has been really successful. I measure their success in how useful they are to teachers and other educators in helping with professional development.

I’m not yet willing to dive educationally into a social tool currently dominated by silliness and pablum.  That said, my argument is not one of a “digital divide” between students and teachers

some folks freak about digital communications between students and teachers.  And yet they think nothing about the face-to-face conversation in the hall where no one else is listening.  This is merely lack of comfort with something new. 

Stand by your interactions as a professional and a model for children, and frankly- there’s a digital record to go along as a bonus.

As Professional Development providers, we must practice with our students (in this case the teachers are our students) what we preach

My PLN is critical in my role and in my professional learning

Mediocre, scattershot training, apart from doing little to help students, is a burden for teachers.

“We should start where students’ weaknesses and shortcomings are and then seek strategies or techniques to help [teachers] understand those shortcomings.”

“But the heart of it has to be about planning for good instruction and evaluating teaching.”

In the 21st century, we can no longer afford this disconnect. To help students become college- and career-ready, we need to teach them how to apply what they are learning in school to the practical and intellectual tasks in their everyday lives.
