    Remix Culture: Part 1 of 3. At about 8 minutes this is a great intro to remix culture.  What is remix culture?  From my point of view, it is the recontextualization of information which results in increased meaning.  By drawing upon part of our shared cultural heritage (a song or video) and mashing it up with either another part of our shared culture or content created by yourself (or friends),  people are now able to leverage both content areas to make ultra rich content. Kind of like when you watch "The Wizard of Oz" and listen to "Dark Side of the Moon"

      I often find that teachers struggle to identify different concent for learners because they are overly focused on the facts of the assessment rather than the concepts in the standard. If we can always articulate to learners what they are going to learn in broad terms we may be better able to see that the concept can be covered at varying levels of complexity. I found with middle school students the easiest content differentiation was providing different reading materials to different students about the same theme.

    When the grant was being written John was one of the people we contacted. Although we can not pay him to take part in our activities (because he works for a governmental agency) he would still like to participate with our group. I talked to him this past Tuesday and I believe he will be attending our next steering committee meeting.

      This sounds a lot like sped steps of skill acquisition: introduce the skill/concept, practice till mastery (usually 90%) then after mastered, practice for fluency, which is when skills can be timed.

      I have found that in many cases it is the praise or acknowledgement of good behavior or good work- the reward is physical evidence of that- the kids do not care about the value of the reward. In fact often the crummier the reward the more they enjoy it.
