This seems like a fun advanced application of skills for students with the iPods or for teachers.
  •
This can only be used with the Android OS. Programs for the iOS are created with the language Objective C which I would not recommend for most students. There is an open source MIT project, called Scratch, that makes programming achievable for students. http://scratch.mit.edu/

Homework and Practice | Researched-Based Strategies | Focus on Effectiveness - 5 views

  • Understand the four types of homework. Know when and why to have students practice: Memorization of basic rules, algorithms, or laws so the skill becomes rote. Increase in skill speed, used for improving students' abilities to apply these skills in more complex problem solving. Deepening understanding of a concept—providing students time to read further, elaborating on a new idea and expanding their understanding. Preparation for the following day's learning, such as an advance organizer or cue to increase readiness for new information.
  • Practice means students are engaged in applying new learning, often repeatedly

This strikes me as super relevant to planning.

This sounds a lot like sped steps of skill acquisition: introduce the skill/concept, practice till mastery (usually 90%) then after mastered, practice for fluency, which is when skills can be timed.

I normally don't recommend Microsoft products but this free book on being safe is well written and wide ranging.  I even learned something so I daresay it contains good information for adults as well, (if you don't mind Manga illustrations).

This would be a good opportunity if any schoolcraft teachers can go to this, and/or maybe this John Fylpaa could be invited to join the June events?

When the grant was being written John was one of the people we contacted. Although we can not pay him to take part in our activities (because he works for a governmental agency) he would still like to participate with our group. I talked to him this past Tuesday and I believe he will be attending our next steering committee meeting.
