I have become interested in the idea of 'flipping' the classroom since I first read about it on Karl Fisch's Fischalgebra blog (see resources at the end of this post).  He describes how he makes eight to ten minute 'mini-lessons/lectures' for his students which they have to watch at home as 'homework'.

The !gnite initiative strives to create flexible learning environments where the use of technology is a seamless part of the process, ubiquitous in connecting learners to content, each other and the global community. Students work extensively with digital tools to create podcasts, video casts, still images and mind maps, and use Web-based environments such as Moodle, blogs and wikis, to construct, communicate and collaborate across time, space and geographical boundaries.

The Spring Branch ISD 21st Century Learning Initiative is the professional development plan that drives and supports the Classroom-Based Technology Project. The Classroom-Based Technology Project places devices for student use into all Spring Branch classsrooms in Pre-K through 12th grade.
