A light read, but a really great insight into wireless networks in Canada. Funny how the market is "functioning well," yet there are still so many accessibility issues related to internet access which need to be adressed, especially with regards to rural communities. The issue of access was touched on in Dijk's readings.

Pretty relevant to some of the discussions about digital access in Northern Canada! This might help to spark some interest in the Internet for residents of Cambridge Bay that are not yet online

Wow, such an interesting direction that online/distance learning is taking through MOOCS (Massive Open Online Course). There is a lot more I can say on this topic, and I will! ____________________ Among the tens of thousands of people signed up for the University of Toronto's online computer science course Learn to Program: The Fundamentals, there are a lot of unconventional students.Of late, MOOCs have dominated the conversation around online learning. They drastically change distance learning, breaking down the barriers of geography and fees, while connecting students across the globe with each other and with some of the world's top teaching talents.

Interesting article on potential free broadband internet implementation in New Zealand. Kim Dotcom is proposing free broadband to all New Zealanders through an attempt to connect New Zealand to the United States via a $400 million Pacific Fibre cable.  Brings up notions of access to technology - and would be interesting to explore what this kind of access would mean for Canada - allowing all Canadians to access free broadband internet. 

Thompson Reuters Foundation recently named Canada the best country to be a woman, with factors considered including access to healthcare and policies that advocate for gender equality.

This resource offers national programs targeted to communication professionals including conferences and speaking tours. It offers an accreditation program (Accredited Business Communicator or ABC) The IABC offers student membership (http://www.iabc.com/join/). There is also a very useful Student Connection Blog available with relevant updates and links - http://students.iabc.com/sc/.

As a group, we have been discussing ways to stay organized and on top of our workload for this program and seeing as the vast majority of us have smartphones some of the apps suggested here might be able to help! The suggestions come from app developers who are students themselves, including Brennan McEachran, who is a fourth-year commerce student at Ryerson.

This is an interesting article about wireless regulation (or the lack of regulation) in Canada. I thought this was especially interesting considering we were just talking about the mobile revolution and the effect it has on work.
