PR Daily shared a list of 25 quotes regarding the power of social networking. I think this list is pretty fitting after our MPC Evening with Industry event, and with all of us looking for or landing internships. I particularly liked this one: "Network continually - 85 percent of all jobs are filled through contacts & personal references." 

An older article from 2011; however the topic resonated with me in light of the recent suspension of columnist Margaret Wente. "Changes in media and technology are rippling through our society, shifting the power structures that have traditionally shaped the public square of news and information in America."

I love info graphics. This one is interesting (ex. it points out that men are usually early adopters of technology, but 79% of Pinterest users are female), but definitely leaves me with some questions. Check it out.

"We just made history." That Nov. 5, 2008 tweet from the campaign of Barack Obama capped off the first presidential election of the social media age. Four years earlier, Howard Dean had begun to reveal the power of the Internet for fundraising and organizing in his losing effort, but it was the 2008 Obama campaign that really demonstrated social media's power to be transformative of the political process. And yet, social media as we know it today was in its infancy.

I'm sure we'll all getting a bit tired of the social media analysis of the election. But this is an interesting read looking at Obama's "Four more years." tweet.

I think this is a new aspect in the reporter/journalist vs. citizen journalist debate. Really interesting how there is already a policy in place regarding live-tweeting from the athletic department at the University of Washington. "Social media has irreversibly altered the media landscape, and the power relationship between big content brands, individual reporters and fans. But the major money makers - ad-rich TV and radio, in particular - will always, or at least for the foreseeable future, remain in the control of the powerful. So it's best for them to lay off the micromanaging, and accept some bit of change."

I'm starting to explore topics for my MRP (though a decision is very far off) and one topic I'm thinking about exploring is the role of organizational storytelling or folklore in the org.'s communications. Although from a branding perpective, this is an interesting read on the topic.
