The Role of Physical Agent Modalities in Therapy - 2 views

  •
The role of PAMS in therapy is vast. Here is a description of the most commonly used PAMS and the areas that they treat. Included are the things we discussed in lecture, but PAMS are used to treat other issues like urinary incontinence. The general clinical roles of electrical stimulation, therapeutic ultrasound, shortwave diathermy, and one we have not studied in class, light therapy. Light therapy is indicated for pain management, increase ROM, decrease joint stiffness, and increase circulation to the treated area. PAMS are used to increase the effects of therapy.

Physical agent modalities traditionally include therapeutic ultrasound, electrical stimulation, shortwave diathermy (electromagnetic energy) and light therapy. This article breaks down how each one helps our patients.

What to do when aging. - 1 views

  •
I really thought this article was interesting and thought I would share it with you all. It's about understanding the natural changes that come with aging and what we can do to improve these issues. I also think that reading this, other individuals see that these issues that they are having themselves are common and they are not alone. I think that helps them to see a different light about it and they are able to accept these problems more easily,

This is a great reference chart for MET levels.   It divides it up into self care, household, recreational, and vocational activities.  This is a great reference to see what ADLs and IADLs have MET levels from light all the way up to very heavy MET levels.

How to Wrap a Finger in Coban Wrap - 1 views

  •
This is a short video with an OTR/CHT demonstrating how to wrap a finger. Uses for Coban wrap include reducing edema, support and protection for wounds (it can be applied directly, but doesn't stick to weeping tissue), light support for joint positioning, and early AROM.

Color Identifying Devices for individuals with vision impairments needing help with ADL... - 1 views

  •
I love the idea of this device! I had never heard of anything like it before so when I found this article I was amazed. The Color Identifier would help individulas who are blind perform ADLS, such as dressing, independenlty. It can identify the color of clothing by determining how much light is being reflected. The individual wouldn't have to worry about if their clothes matched or not, which could save them time and embarrassment if they cared about their personal appearance. It also seemed to have very simple instructions, which is a plus.

Taboo topic of sexual surrogates and providing intimacy professionally - 2 views

  •
This is a company that provides sexual surrogacy (the topic that Tyler brought up in our class) and resources for those with disabilities to explore and fulfill their sexual needs. This is obviously not a light topic of discussion and some may take offense with what this company offers, but it is a conversation that is worth discussing. Individuals with disabilities may have a harder time understanding and exploring their sexuality. Society has a tendency to desexualize those with disabilities because it is not a topic that most people are comfortable discussing and families/caregivers might even infantilize those that they care for because of their level of dependence.

Apps for Seniors - 0 views

This infographic offers information on apps that would be beneficial for an aging population. Two apps that stuck out to me were the "Pillboxie" app that helps with medication management and "Silver Surf" which is an adapted web browser that includes larger navigation buttons and white-on-black graphics which allow for better viewing in all lighting situations.
