This article talks about Innappropriate Patient Sexual Behavior and how to deal with it in a very assertive way. It says to never ignore the problem and to always handle it in a very assertive yet non threatening way. The most important comment that to take away is: "Patient behavior is about the patient and NOT about YOU" - this is good to remember in all patient scenarios. This is a link to an awesome website for The Fontana Center.  The Fontana Center is a center for work rehabilitation.  It is owned and run by an OTR and also hires COTAs, massage therapy, and fitness experts.  This place is very holistic.  It offers seminars and workshops on ergonomics and preventing work place injury.  It also prescreens employees for companies to make sure their candidate can handle the physical aspects of the job that they are applying for…this saves the company lots of money in the long run.  The facility offers functional capacity evaluations and work hardening programs.  It also has fitness classes including water aerobics/therapy, yoga, and even classes for seniors.  This is great for fall prevention! I love this place…I wonder how many places like this exist in the US?

Simply the highest quality, most functional patient handling equipment in the industry.

At my last fieldwork placement I got to watch a couple of driving assessments. Driving brings a person much freedom. Taking away the privilege can be devastating to some. This article gives some good tips on to talk with a loved one about their ability or non-ability to drive. I think the tips would apply to those of us who find ourselves working in situations where we would have to talk with client's about this subject.

This is a tough issue. I used to worry about my grandmother so much. She started having little fender benders. It is good for us to be aware as COTA's how significant driving or not driving can be to our clients.

The conversation regarding when someone should no longer drive could be quite hard. I found this website that gives advise on how to have this conversation. It discusses how to plan for it, how to bring it up, how to handle objections and the environment in which it should take place. It also talks about how to help the individual with the transition (finding other means of transportation, etc).

Introduction: There is a limit to the amount of work that you can do on your own. There is only so much value that you can deliver to your organization without the help of other people. If you are successful in your career, at some stage the demands on you will become greater than you are able to cope with on your own.

Although we seldom think about them this way, most American communities as they exist today were built for the spry and mobile. We've constructed millions of multi-story, single-family homes where the master bedroom is on the second floor, where the lawn outside requires weekly upkeep, where the mailbox is a stroll away.

Since we are all students, I thought I'd research some tips for us on how to manage stress! One thing I struggle with is my anxiety with exams. Oh my! This is a youtube video on a skin grafting technique. I was curious how they do skin grafting. I found out! This video made my stomach, toes, and my whole body clinch up watching it! If you can handle it, it's interesting.

This is a slide presentation by AgrAbility which does a little bit of teaching about ergonomics and also shows lots of examples of adapted garden tools. I don't garden, but I found this presentation interesting because a lot of older people I know garden, and I enjoy eating their produce! Grips, handle lengths, lightweight materials and the like are described and suggested, either to purchase or make yourself. There's also information about gardening with arthritis and general safety precautions.
