Jeff Utecht's blog entry about a novel way to teach students search skills. Give students and start and end point. Eg. 3rd Grade - give students: Rocks and Volcanoes. Start with Rocks and create a search story that gets them to end the search story with how Rocks and Volcanoes are related.

Google's created a series of lessons to help you guide your students to use search meaningfully in their schoolwork and beyond. Search Literacy lessons are broken down based on level of expertise in search: Beginner, Intermediate, or Advanced.

I have been researching apps for literacy to use and this sight has some great ideas.

Pinterest is a Virtual Pinboard. Pinterest lets you organize and share all the beautiful things you find on the web. People use pinboards to plan events or collect and organise things they like that relate to different topics. Best of all, you can browse pinboards created by other people. Browsing pinboards is a fun way to discover new things and get inspiration from people who share your interests.

A free online encyclopedia about the Earth, its natural enviornments and interaction with society. Whilst the intended audience is the general public the content is suitable for teachers and students. There are links to other resources.
