The science behind storytelling | Melcrum | Smarter Internal Communication - 0 views

  • While facts and figures engage a small area of the brain, stories engage multiple brain regions that work together to build colorful, rich three-dimensional images and emotional responses. As we read stories we quickly begin to feel as if what’s happening out there is actually happening in here. Each sensory image, sound, texture, color, sensation and emotion provides a hook for our brain as the story draws us in and maintains our attention effortlessly.

Thanks for sharing Nick! I believe this is a great example of an ethnography study. However, I believe Geertz should also conduct interviews to triangulate his data. Keep on sharing!
  •
I agree with you llizamj. I also think that the author should have interviewed the Balinese women because it seemed bias to interpret the Balinese culture from a cockfight that mainly involved men.
  •
I totally agree that it is important to collect different sources of qualitative data to increase the trustworthiness of the study. Thanks!

Research Methodology: Back to Basics - 7 views

    • allisha_gajah

      But, why?
    • nickcage

I think it is because of the theory generated is grounded in the collected data. Then the theory can be tested through quantitative methods.
  •
I think qualitative methods can be applied to answer "How" research questions too!
