UK Parliament - Commons Select Commitee, 10/09/13 The Government's commitment to increasing access to published research findings, and its desire to achieve full open access, are welcome, says the Business, Innovation and Skills Committee in a Report published today. The Privacy Perils of Contact Tracing in Libraries - Choose Privacy Every Day - 0 views

  •
by Becky Yoose and Erin Bernan, 05/06/20 A public library is one of the only places where a person can walk through the door and access information anonymously. No one checks your identification when you come in and you don't have to purchase anything to visit. This freedom - based on every person's First Amendment right to access public libraries is what allows us to serve those in our communities who may not have access to information by any other means. Yet, as communities struggle with the COVID-19 pandemic, libraries are faced with requests or demands to institute contact tracing, monitoring who comes into the library and restricting access to those who don't provide their personal information.

Knowledge Unlatched:A Global Library Consortium Model for Funding Open Access Scholarly... - 0 views

  •
by Lucy Montgomery - Cltural Science, vol.7:n°2, 2014 This special issue of Cultural Science Journal is devoted to the report of a groundbreaking experiment in re-coordinating global markets for specialist scholarly books and enabling the knowledge commons: the Knowledge Unlatched proof-of-concept pilot. The pilot took place between January 2012 and September 2014. It involved libraries, publishers, authors, readers and research funders in the process of developing and testing a global library consortium model for supporting Open Access books. The experiment established that authors, librarians, publishers and research funding agencies can work together in powerful new ways to enable open access; that doing so is cost effective; and that a global library consortium model has the potential dramatically to widen access to the knowledge and ideas contained in book-length scholarly works. Eve, Martin Paul - Cambridge University Press, 2014 - Ful text pdf URL If you work in a university, it is likely that you have heard the term "open access" in the past couple of years. You may also have heard either that it is the utopian answer to all the problems of research dissemination or perhaps that it marks the beginning of an apocalyptic new era of pay-to-say publishing. In this book, Dr. Martin Paul Eve sets out the histories, contexts and controversies for open access, specifically in the humanities

by Samuel Moore, 23/08/15 The competitive nature of scholarship and the precariousness of academic employment is what currently hinders early-career researchers, not open access publishing.
