Asana is the shared task list for your team. The place to plan, organize & stay in sync. Free for up to 30 team menbers.
  •
This looks like a great way to keep a project team organized and informed. The tutorial was helpful and gave a nice overview of the system. Free is also a wonderful feature!
  •
For a simple, light Project Management tool, Asana worked great to keep a list of tasks and when they were completed.

15 Useful Project Management Tools - 0 views

  •
There is a huge variety of project management applications out there. Most are general purpose apps, not aimed at any one industry. But there are a growing number of project management apps aimed specifically at one industry or another. Applications geared toward creative types are becoming more readily available, and some of the offerings are really quite good.

I love Smashing Magazine. A great resource for anything in digital design! This is a nice article.

21 Ways to excel at project management - 1 views

  •
This article breaks down the stages of a project. It is an easy read.
  •
Interesting article, I learned something new in the section releasing the benefits. Specifically, "to gain benefits, you must have change." I know some can be afraid of change but then how does a company grow. Change needs to occur to have everything stay current and up-to date. thanks
  •
This was a great article since it appealed to all skill levels. Whether new to project management or a "seasoned" professional these tips could apply to all. I also like how it was broken down into 21 ways so you could pick one topic and work on that and then move on to the next if need be. A great way to gradually build better PM skills.

I thought this laid out the various skills a PM must have in a clear way and compared the emotional (soft) and technical (hard) skills well.

I think people in all career areas could learn something from these general stress busters...it's just a matter of seeing through to help yourself when you're in the midst of crisis!
  •
Good article on what can cause stress, the biological and mental aspect of stress and some quick tips you can use anywhere. So many of us rely on caffeine drinks to keep up going it is scary what the long term effects can be. A good smoothie can probably do better and is better for you. Dabbled around the site a bit and found out these guys are from Canada, my home country!
  •
Right. Stress. I think this is one I should post hard-copy to the wall, ha. I might consider cutting back on caffeine and taking a deep breath more often. Thanks for a smart addition to the PM list :)
  •
Jaime- I am on day 2 of no caffeine and I already feel SO much calmer. I'm craving it really badly, but I was so jittery lately and I know it was stressing me out more. A good reminder on keeping stress under control. Thanks Allan!
  •
I like the recommendations for stress reduction. A few people at my work actually requested that the company create a quiet relaxation room. Not sure if they'll do it, but I hope so. I got into breathing meditation years ago and it pretty much cured me of anxiety attacks that had persisted from my late 20's to early 30's. A couple years of daily practice and they haven't returned for almost 10 years. I don't keep up with the meditation anymore, but I'd say any amount of practice can affect long-term benefits.

I can't hardly believe this is free! What is the world (Microsoft) coming to? Anyway, I downloaded this for my home computer, thanks!

Thanks, Laura. A friend was recently asking me if I knew of a free PM tool like MS Project. This should be perfect.

Systems Thinking: Systems-Oriented View of Organizational Functions - 0 views

  •
I like this website and have read most of the topics. I post the homepage URL to show all the topics available, but take note of the few topics on project management. I've had a long interest in the convergence of PM & KM, and both share some similar qualities from the systems-oriented perspective. There are a lot of other authors and resources out there that talk about PM from a systems-thinking approach, but I thought this site a good starting point. A good book for expanding on this topic is Gerald Weinberg's "An Introduction to General Systems Thinking."

This site provides a good overview of the Scrum methodology and information about training and certification programs. I went through an onsite Scrum Master course a year ago and was recently reminded that it was time to renew my certification. The Scrum Master test was pretty easy right after the training.

This is a great site for affordable online training, especially for PMP certification preparation. You can select training from among many reputable online training devopment companies. The PMP course I checked out was by PrimeLearning. Although I couldn't tell which version of the PMBOK the course was written for, it looked like all of the main concepts were included in the course.

Very affordable for PMP prep classes! I took one several years ago and it was a few thousand dollars.

Free Project Management Templates - PMBOK Templates - 5 views

  •
Free templates for all stages of Project Management. Great simple explanations of terminology and descriptions of what should go in each section of templates that are available. Not only are there documents you would expect such as Project Initiation Documents and Work Breakdown Schedule documents, but also Project Meeting Agenda and Minute templates. When you don't know where to start with compiling PM documents, this site offers some easy to use options.

Wow - it sure does! I would need some good starter points to develop professional reports that also ensure I'm including all necessary elements.
  •
The templates look like they are really easy to use, at least the ones that I played with did. I thought that it was really interesting that they did their WBS in Microsoft Word. I had contemplated doing that for our project plan but I decided that it would be more trouble than it was worth. The template makes it really easy.
  •
Great resource! I appreciated that not only templates were included, but also lots of related information about "why and how would I use this."
  •
Giselle, this is a great find! I can't believe these templates are free.
