This website looks like a great resource for project managers by offering some very unique courses in this profession.

This is a specialized site in project management practice that provides a central site tool, references, news, projects, training offers and many other resources to help people interested in joining a PM community online. Their mission description is to help project managers be successful mainly by providing connections, information, technology resources, and advice. I found this page very helpful in this area and with a good collaborative and iterative structure.

The International Journal of Project Management offers wide ranging and comprehensive coverage of all facets of project management. Published eight times per year, it provides a focus for worldwide expertise in the required techniques, practices and areas of research; presents a forum for its readers to share common experiences across the full range of industries and technologies in which project management is used; covers all areas of project management from systems to human aspects; links theory with practice by publishing case studies and covering the latest important issues. Application areas include: information systems, strategic planning, research and development, system design and implementation, engineering and construction projects, finance, leisure projects, communications, defence, agricultural projects, major re-structuring and new product development. Papers originate from all over the world and are fully peer-reviewed, on the 'double-blind' system. In addition, the journal carries conference reports, and book reviews. Topics Covered Include: Project concepts; project evaluation; team building and training; communication; project start-up; risk analysis and allocation; quality assurance; project systems; project planning; project methods; tools and techniques; resources, cost and time allocation; estimating and tendering; scheduling; monitoring, updating and control; contracts; contract law; project finance; project management software; motivation and incentives; resolution of disputes; procurement methods; organization systems; decision making processes; investment appraisal. No matter how great we are at creating learning solutions, we will not even get off the ground without the right content and context. Sometimes, working with SMEs can be one of the most difficult parts of the process. This article provides four great suggestions for how to effectively work with your SME.

Jenna, these guidelines are simple but powerful. What of the greatest challenges I had on a recent project was to get the SME to back off and take care of the content, not the learning materials. I never really succeeded but it might have helped if I had the #4 guideline instilled in our heads early in the project.

The American Society for Training & Development (ASTD) is a non-profit association for workplace learning and performance professionals. They describe this certification program as "...presents concrete steps to improve your project management skills. Participants will learn to manage the critical project management role helping deliver learning and performance solutions that better support their business goals."

This is a pretty accessible, concise outline for using ADDIE for project management in ID. I find it interesting because there is criticism that ADDIE is not adequate for project management, but I am still not entirely sure why. This adaptation looks pretty sound.

I posted this in our class discussion, but it occurred to me that it is really a great project management resource for those people who might feel daunted by difficult conversations. It it a resource that will help improve your EQ. In short, the book talks about how to identify when a crucial conversation needs to take place, how to plan for it and how to execute it. We have a couple of copies of this book lying around my office. I hadn't connected it to project management. I will have to check it out.

Many people I worked with at the Colorado Department of health use this approach. The state has invested in offering the course to employees. While I never had a chance to take this course, I've heard really great things about it. One thing that has made a difference for people I know who have done this, they did with a staff team. That way everyone is using a common approach. That seems to really support implementing what they learned.

Nice general ID blog with a good number of articles about project managment in realtion to eLearning. This article in particular had some nice tips.

I like the idea of educating SME's about the process so they understand why making last minute changes makes it difficult for us.

Simple and concise, this article offers some sound advice on managing eLearning projects.  I love the analogy presented in the opening introduction that project management is like herding a bunch of wild cats in one direction.  It really is true that the project manager is in a position that requires them to deal with people of all different personalities and moods.

I have used GoToWebinar and I loved it. It is easy to use and professional looking. I am curious to try GoToMeeting and GoToTraining.

It is interesting to me that so many people like GoToMeeting/Webinar/Training. I've had mixed experiences with it. It lacks some of the functionality of other tools like Adobe Connect (chat features vary depending on which version you have, playing videos is very problematic, relies on screen sharing to share documents and do presentations). We do a lot of webinars, many with very large audiences (300-1000 people). While this is fine for meetings and daily business. I don't recommend this for large groups., It also isn't good if you want to have a virtual room when you can leave your documents, notes etc.
