Ensuring eLearning Success: Six Simple Tips for Initiative Leaders - 0 views

  •
This article is relatively old (2002). Nonetheless, it contains timeless tips to ensure eLearning success, particularly with regard to managing stakeholder expectations. -Duncan McBogg Abstract: Leading a major e-learning or blended learning initiative is a relatively new, complex and high-stakes challenge. Success depends on a variety of factors, not the least of which is the project leader's ability to manage threats in the form of miscommunication among key constituents, excessive rework, missed milestones, cost overruns, poor quality deliverables, etc. To help ensure the success of your organization's learning initiatives, consider how you might apply these proven tips:

This is the program Dropbox, not to be mistaken for the UCD dropbox. This was a great tool for our team this semester, and I will be using it a lot more for other projects. The tutorial is great because he takes you step by step on his desktop.

There is a lot of good information here. Some of it is old. In some cases, that may matter and in other cases, it may not. I downloaded a couple of things. I hope he does some updates.

I thought this laid out the various skills a PM must have in a clear way and compared the emotional (soft) and technical (hard) skills well.

Six Essential Skills for Managing Conflict - 0 views

  •
Great concise article on conflict management with specific strategic tips. The goal is not just to resolve conflict, but rather to work through conflict toward a productive outcome.
  •
Great article. I love the very first point - finding the common goal to concentrate on, and using your empathy to approach your adversary as you would a friend.

I've used this simple To Do list program for several years. It includes a task list, a calendar view and a Gantt chart. Probably not something to use with enormous complicated projects, but I use it for a lot of different things. It is a free utility that runs from an executable rather than installing a full program which makes it easy to give it a test run.

Springpad: Everyday life, done better - 2 views

  •
Having seen the previous post on Evernote, I thought I'd add my alternative to it . I use Springpad to keep track of smaller projects on the go and various "to do" lists.
  •
I really need to bite the bullet and incorporate something like this for travel/busy weeks. Have you tried Evernote? If so, why do you prefer Springpad? Thanks.
  •
I like the Springpad interface better, but here's a good article that compares the two. http://lifehacker.com/should-i-use-springpad-or-evernote-504486764

Definitely good reminders for the workplace! It reminds me of a coworker who had the "reply all" button removed form their email accounts at her previous company because people just couldn't help themselves from over using it. These are good rules to pass around every once in awhile :).

I think we take for granted, because we have all been writing emails for a while, that we know how to make them effective. I would definitely share this at work!

In research and and evaluation these checklists can be incredibly useful. It may be a stretch to apply them to project mgmt for instructional design but there are many links to proposal development that are thought provoking.

Design Thinking for Educators - 0 views

The very cool IDEO methodology Kenny mentioned in a discussion during our course: It is a mindset Design Thinking is the confidence that everyone can be part of creating a more desirable future, and a process to take action when faced with a difficult challenge. That kind of optimism is well needed in education.

Smart Sheet - 0 views

If you want a way to make the most beautiful Gantt charts you've ever seen... use Smart sheet. It's not free, but there is a free trial. I wanted to make a one page Gantt chart, that was vertical rather than horizontal, and I didn't want to pay money or download open project, and smart sheet came to the rescue. It does have more features, like assigning tasks to your team members... but I really only used it to make the Gantt chart of my dreams.
