What:
This workshop will provide participants with an overall understanding of the major differences in Montana Common Core Standards (MCCS) and how this fits into a Response to Instruction (RtI) model for school improvement. The topics will include: Meeting MCCS standards, developing fidelity, improving lesson planning, improving Tier I & Tier II instructions, available programming options, and diagnostic and progress monitoring assessments for math.

Objectives
Evaluate your current math program's alignment to MCCS Identify the key features of MCCS Improving Tier I math instruction Review Tier II interventions Improve lesson planning for math Understand the role of MCCS for math within an RtI model of school improvement

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be a professional advocate? What kind of training is needed? How do I attract clients? What do I do after I'm hired? What about billing? And how do I avoid burn-out? This session provides a starting point to answer these questions. Many parents, therapists, retired school district staff, and others routinely ask me how to become a professional advocate. Of course, there is no One Right Way to do this, no certification, no road map. . . and so the goal is to help participants consider the next steps, to provide them with some information about what has worked for some professional advocates, and to connect them with resources. This presentation will cover the following issues, among others: role of the advocate, sources/types of training, work environments, attracting clients, advocate's intake and next steps, maintaining records and confidentiality, billing, pro bono work, the importance of boundaries, and networking resources. The presentation will also reference COPAA's Voluntary Code of Ethics for advocates.

What:
The Montana Regional Education Service Area III (MRESA3) is offering an opportunity for professional development on the new revisions for Gifted and Talented in Montana. This workshop is designed to assist schools and districts to have the necessary components for their Gifted and Talented Program Plan to submit to OPI. The focus of this workshop is to equip the participant with strategies necessary to construct a gifted program that fits their district and population of students. Participants will be presented with the OPI framework for Gifted Education Programs and a Gifted Program Planning Template. Emphasis will be placed on identification of gifted and twice exceptional children as well as characteristics of sound curriculum for gifted students. Several teaching strategies that enable the teacher to differentiate the core curriculum to meet the needs of not only the gifted student but all students in the classroom will be presented. Participants will come away with the ability to complete a comprehensive plan for their district and/or develop a differentiated curriculum unit or lesson.

What:
This workshop is an excellent opportunity to learn how to weave the English Language Arts Common Core Standards with Indian Education for All.  Presenter Dr. Tammy Elser will employ the "Many Birds Approach" from the Framework for Implementation of Indian Education for All (IEfA) to support teachers as they develop understanding of IEfA contexts and content, while addressing the skills and concepts required to implement the Montana Common Core Standards. Teachers will leave with a dozen new strategies for close analytic reading practiced in the context of some of the highly developed, and Common Core aligned, IEfA Language Arts, Social Studies and Science lessons. Strategies practiced can be taken the next day into the classroom. Demonstrations will span multiple grade levels and content areas and will be debriefed through the lens of the MCCS and the Framework's approach to integration.

The Jargon Free Lecture is a half-day training program using a "jargon free" explanation of the Institute for Applied Behavior Analysis (IABA) multi-element model and the use of positive practices in support of individuals with challenging and complex behavioral needs. This training is  designed for persons who may or may not have received professional training who implement support plans  with persons with developmental disabilities and generally provide a variety of services at many levels in public and private schools, residential settings, personal homes and supported work and other adult day programs.  This training is open to all interested persons.
